Its uneventful for 15 years.
15 year rum should be a smooth sipper at this age, but its not. Very harsh upfront burn which shouldn't be existent in this age of a rum. So I highly recommend drinking it with cola (I prefer diet coke). Even in coke its only So-So the last guy said "thin" and I think that is an amazing description. Some rums are bold and have distinctive flavors.Which makes sense because even sniffing the rum from the bottle you dont get any distinct smell besides some alcohol. This is similar to appleton estate v/x rum with a different cask taste. So the choice is yours go appleton estate v/x which is 17$ a fifth or this which is around 40$ a fifth with limited availability.
Cliff Notes
-Harsh upfront burn (not a great sipper)
-No real bold flavor
-Sweet Finish
-No smell from bottle (which translates into the no flavour)
-Similar to appleton estate v/x (I think appleton estate is better however)

I started my rum hobby with this one and I have a special relation ship to it. I even offered it at my wedding in stead of cognac and a lot of people tried their first sipping rums with the 15 yo Matusalem as well. It is in no means a bad rum, but in retrospect after tasting so many good rums this can't hold up to many standards. It is not smooth not balanced and burns in the finish. It still has some charm and is still too good to be a mixer. It is priced reasonable, therefore still worth a 7.

To much ethanol taste and not overly complex.
Decent for sipping but there are better ones out there.

Very hot, average flavors, and too hot of a finish. Not worth your time.

I admit I have not had the opportunity to try an actual Cuban rum. Maybe those days are over as the US thaw's our relationship with that island country. I want to know if reality of rums and cigars are as good as the mystique. I liked this and the 18 year very much.

It does what it can do, but It just wont ever be "up there". I like the older brother for beeing different than many other rums, even though its still not up there. But this is something funny in between.
Nose: Vanilla, Dried fruit (maybe figns?)
Taste. Too much alcohol for my liking, yet some caramel and sweetness after.
Aftertaste: Short and semi-dry.

All in all drinkable, but wont be a rebuy on my account. Would imagine this would be really good in drinks though. But my ratings are as always, as a sipper.
