As I was not fond of Matusalem Gran Reserva 15, I found this step up and thought I'd give it s try. Yes, there is more character. Yes, it is more refined but I still find it lacking in many ways. Maybe I just don't like this style of aged rum.

Smooth fruity stone fruit and chocolate goodness. Well rounded, pleasing finish. The 15 is better IMO. Be aware that they do add prunes to the barrels.

I had this rum in Florida while on vacation there. It's fairly good but for an "18 year" rum, I was expecting a little more maturity to the rum. Still very good as a siping rum.

Has complex flavors, somewhat sweeter than other similar products but caramel, maple, and complex. Great rum

I am a fan of Matusalem, though there are Rums that I like better. I have no complaints about this 18 year, but it is just a tier below my favorites. So a 7 seems to be just about right and I do like 7s :)

I admit I have not had the opportunity to try an actual Cuban rum. Maybe those days are over as the US thaw's our relationship with that island country. I want to know if reality of rums and cigars are as good as the mystique. I liked this and the 15 year very much.
