Extremely smooth and the best tasting rum I have experienced.

Ultra-premium 40% ABV rum from Costa Rica. A blend of rums that have been aged in charred oak barrels for 15 - 30 years.

Bottle: Luxury, comes in a nice case
Colour: Very dark amber to mahogany shade

Nose: Very similar to Centenario 30 YO with a stronger proportion of woody notes. The aroma shows vanilla, caramel, wood, raisins and overripe grapes. To me, it smells slightly more pleasant than the 30 YO version.
Taste: Bittersweet, again with more wood than the 30 YO version. The rum is again syrupy and the taste is strong and slightly more mature than the 30 YO version. In addition to vanilla and caramel, the palate has liqueur wine, raisins, honey and charred oak.
Aftertaste: Medium-long.

Conclusion: Although the price increase over the 30 YO version is almost double and the taste and aroma are very similar, I like the Centenario Real better in terms of flavour profile. I give full points in my rating.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Caramel, rich in flavor. Sweet. I don't think it is as good as the 30 year. But it is very tasty.

Sweet with great number of tones, very good taste, complex. Kinda what you expect from its superior look.
Abnormally smooth, you'll feel literally nothing going thru your neck downstairs.
I admire its complexity and pefect sweet balance without being annoyingly too sweet and always rate quality over price.
A good benchmark for other worse rum as well to know how far is it from this top material: even above average "cheaper" rums look like schoolboys when compared to this masterpiece.
One of the sweet, bourbon/Spanish style blends I didn't stop enjoying under my massive palate development (going into weird Jamaican, S African, pot-stilled etc. rums).

I’ve heard so many great things about this rum, and the exclusivity. From what I’ve read it can only be purchased upon exciting the country at the airport. I’m a huge fan on Centenario rums traveling Costa Rica a dozen times in the 80’s surfing and enjoying their early rums. I finally found this bottle on auction and likely over paid as someone else wanted it badly too. But justified as less cost than a trip to CR and it’s my Christmas gift. So now on to the rum.

Nice dark brown color, sweet smooth nectar with long lasting depth. I wish I had some 30 year old for a side by side but this puppy is great. This as close to a 10 as it gets. Bottle states 30 yeas Solara method that does not sound impressive, but whoever is selecting the barrels and blending is doing a superb job.

Round 2 immediately after 1st to confirm 1st tasting, that means it’s really good and I want some more. First I have to say this Fuente Don Carlos #2 has been perfect cigar for this Christmas 5 bottle tasting. A few puff’s in between rums to cleanse the pallet. 10 it is need to put on the top shelf to prevent drinking it all.
