This is an awesome small distillery operation. However, their rum left a lot to be desired.
I should have checked the reviews before I bought it. It smells great when you open it but a rum and coke doesn’t make it. Yes it probably falls in the other category listed but not for me.
This has the harsh, not well made quality of something like a Bacardi, but has way more depth of flavor than that. Harsh and almost agricole-like, but with a molassesy, sweet, spiced quality to it. Almost like 50/50 agricole/Bajan rum, but with the worst qualities of each instead of the best
Not horrible but nothing amazing. Pot distillation probably gives it more character than it otherwise would have. The nose is entirely unpleasant. The proof is great, though. It mixes well. I'm torn as I love having locally produced alcohol on my shelf but I'll probably not get this one again.
I have put off in buying a bottle of this one for almost a year, since there were not enough reviews and the distiller still seemed to be experimenting. So I saw this one on the shelf for only $32 and this was the lowest price that I have ever seen for it. I brought it back home and not knowing what to expect.
I would classify it as a subdued aged agricole rum, mixed with pot stilled molasses rum. The color is a very pale yellow. The aroma and taste are both floral and vegetal, but not overwhelming as what is found in most rhum agricoles and cachacas. For those wanting an introduction to agricoles, this is not a bad place to start. However, this is NOT a rum for beginners. Fans of Bacardi and The Captain will truly hate this rum because it is 180 degrees opposite of what they are used to drinking. I also recommend only enjoying this one on the rocks, since it is too harsh neat at 90 proof and I have yet to find a good mixer. And just because this one is part agricole does not mean that it will make a good Mai Tai!!! I tried with miserable results.
This one is also my top ranked rum from Florida, standing in my upper 25%. Cheers to this distiller for releasing a very good rum! Their effort shows!
