Kraken Black Spiced

There is a certain standard that rum needs to meet before becoming a true sipping rum and this isn't it. Don't know how it would taste mixed as I just drink rum straight but I guess this would do for that

Nice dark colour with good spicy favors. I enjoy it with coke on ice.

For a 94 proof, it's ok, but, the alcohol content overpowers a run that has so much potential! For a black rum, the flavors are a little on the light side, for my pallette. If your looking for an -almost- tier 1 rum to add to your arsenal for a decent Cuba Libre, Dark & Stormy, and the like, you won't be disappointed... however, this is no Kirk & Sweeney or Angostura 12year... but you can't beat the price point for a slightly above average black rum

Nice rum. It mixes well with cola. Straight up is also nice because it has enough taste. Not higher than a 7 because I don't prefer Spiced rums in general. Around 25 euros

It's too sweet for my taste. It bit better than Morgan but still it's better to skip it.

Dark, sweet toffe rum. Good on the rocks or in mixed drinks. Nice bottle.

As with most spiced offerings, I find that the vanilla overpowers nearly every other spice in the glass, and even at that, it is very heavy-handed with the vanilla.
The packaging and marketing is brilliant, they really nail the old-timey feel, harkening back to the golden age of piracy and sailing ships with the stark black bottle art and the rings on the neck.
The taste is very basic on the tongue, serviceable, but there is little to savor and enjoy here. Tiny hints of clove and allspice surface here and there between waves of vanilla and alcohol, but you have to hunt for them. This is not the complex rum you sip in an armchair in front of a fire.
It works as a mixer, but again, be aware that vanilla will be a component in whatever cocktail you make with this.
Since I prefer all rum straight, I recommend dropping an ice cube in the glass, it benefits from a slight chill and a little water. If you just want a spiced rum that isn't bad but isn't amazing, grab some Kraken.
