Wow! This one will make you wide eyed if you drink it straight up. The flavor is just too powerful. Even with Coke its too strong. Add this one to a pina colada or something of that caliber. The taste and body are fine, but this one needs to be toned down.

Given the high alcohol content and the colour I was expecting a very harsh rum that would demand some dedication in its consumption. Rather surprised to find a very encouraging aroma and a pleasant taste (if a little fiery on the way down). Perhaps a little over priced but often on promotion in the major UK supermarkets.

Okay so I'm going to be brutally honest about myself. I'm a guy who doesn't particularly care for the taste of alcohol. I don't like Vodka or Whiskey or Bourbon or really anything like that. When I go out I am usually the guy who gets a beer and that's it. Well I've become quite the fan of rum because to me drinking rum is like drinking history rather than something like Jager that my college peers drink because they think it's "manly".
So Kraken I actually had entirely by accident when a festival I was at (a Pirate festival no doubt so irony for the win lol) got rained out and I took shelter in a friends tent. She happened to have a bottle of Kraken Black Spiced Rum and shared her bottle with me. When I said I don't like the taste of alcohol I meant it and I was very skeptical of drinking this stuff straight since we had nothing to mix it with. Suffice to say I was extremely surprised at how smooth and delicious this stuff really was! Now the commercials for the product are a bit scary and make it sound like this is an evil bottle of rum that should only be drunk by the devil himself Blackbeard, but let me tell you Kraken is amazing. It has a very smooth flavor of caramel and spice but the thing about this rum is that each flavor compliments one another. The spice isn't overbearing and neither is the caramel in fact all the flavors work in unison together to produce a wonderful flavor. This is the fundamental reason Kraken is my favorite rum. In a pinch I can do Captain Morgan or Sailor Jerry's but this rum is my go-to rum. It mixes extremely well with cola and in fact I think this rum was made both for straight drinking and cola. The spices just match really well with cola and it produces a really sweet flavor that can't quite be described. Kraken is a rum that needs to be experience first hand and no amount of descriptive wording or clever vernacular can describe how this rum tastes and how good it is.
I must however warn you that I do get the feeling especially from some of the reviews that Kraken is a love/hate rum. Some people like me love it and swear by it whilst others may despise it. I personally think that this is a high quality rum and I love it. Sadly not every hangout stocks this stuff and so it's a rare treat. My favorite hangout just ordered it and is waiting on a shipment to come in but not every place has this. It's a rare treat but a treat it is.

Un spiced, très spiced, fort en bouche, mais ne dégage pas beaucoup de saveur, fort note de banane à mon palet, mais rien d exceptionnel, pas volé pour le prix mais ne casse pas des briques la bestiole

I can drink this with coke in a pinch. More expensive than other, better options in my area, so I will pretty much never get this, however, it is something I can drink. Just not impressed.

I love more smooth rums to strong for me no offends not my cup of tea,,,

but I'm not really into spiced rum. This is a very sweet artificial tasting rum that might be good to indulge one's sweet tooth or introduce minors to hard alcohol. Either way I would chose different stuff...
