Trinidad and Tobago | Spiced | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

Dark color with good aroma. Flavor gets lost to me with coke, but adds a sweetness.
Easy drinking. Prefer to drink mixed with cola. Nice smooth flavour with a mild spice. Very good drink for it's price.
The contents is not that all Kraked up to be.
I know the marketing wheels have been spinning like lightning with this product and I've got the 40% abv version. The packaging is great, love the bottle. Great colour, almost black in the bottle but more dark reddish in the glass. Aroma is pretty safe, mostly vanilla and some background spice. Taste very much similar as the nose but there is an underlying bitterness that lingers well into the finish
There is something missing and to me it's actually the rummy element if that's a word. Whatever base rum is used its well hidden with whatever they have put into this concoction.
Perhaps the 47% abv version is able to carry the flavours a bit better but I won't be going out of my way to get one any time soon.
Its a very smooth tasty spiced rum...full flavor, but a bit too sweet. Its fun to shoot with a group, but the headache the day after is heavy and harsh. Enjoy it as a mixer and best not to overdo it.
I am not a huge fan of spiced rums, I prefer aged rums but I heard so many good things about this one that I had to try it. Kraken is by far my favorite spiced rum. Not to sweet and not to strong of a finish even though it's 94 proof. A hint of licorice. Worth a go.
I enjoy this rum when mixing a hot buttered rum, otherwise it stays at the back of my liquor cabinet unless someone requests it.
Tried this on the rocks. It's better than other dark rums that I've tried and if I wanted to drink spiced rum straight, shots seems like a good choice. If I was going to mix, I'm not sure that the extra cost over Captain Morgan's is worth it.
Big, bold flavors of vanilla and clove to stand up to the higher proof. Very sweet. Good as a mixer if you need sweet vanilla flavor, and a sneaky amount of alcohol. Stands up to cola very well.
Love the spices, but not a sipping rum. Great for baking rum cakes/rum balls.
I don't usually like a dark rum but given it was on offer and the bottle looked cool I gave it a go. Very pleased I did too as it's very unique, has a beautiful color, and tasted much better than I expected for the price. Excellent on its own or over ice or you can mix with coke for a longer drink and it's just as good
A caramel/treacley heavy molasses like smell. .
"There is nothing subtle about the spicing and the caramel flavour makes the rum, to my taste overly sweet."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The bottle is totally one of the most unique out there for sure. Smelling it from the bottle it smells like cotton candy, so much sweetness smell it's incredible. Pouring it in the glass it is a dark black amber color and it smells and I'm not exaggerating like latex paint and then a woof of alcohol. But its mostly cocoa and molasses creating this smell. Drinking it straight is very very harsh. Harsh burn up front and I mean HARSH. I was trying to zone in on flavors but I was more worried about the fire I just in took. Drinking it with Diet coke gives you a strange rum and coke. Initially it tastes like a regular coke then it kicks in full gear a bitter chocolate and then a large amount of sweetness (from molasses) and then evens out with a finish of caramel. I'm not a very big chocolate rum person so I cant consider this one all that good and at its price point is only so-so as a mixer. I don't get too much spice out of it either. This rum reminds me of something that first starts you on rum tasting. Its one of those that when you first try are thinking its SO much better than bacardi (it is) and you get all hyped about it and think you are a rum snob. After swimming in the rum pool for a while you realize this is only so so compared to others. But I strongly recommend if you like bitter-sweet rums.
