Too sweet for me but my spouse loves it. Prob the only spiced rum I’ve had in the last 2 yrs.
I didn't enjoy this at all. It had a sting aftertaste of the above and won't be buying this again.
Not as much flavor as Sailor Jerry for an evening Cuba Libre
An entirely different flavor from the spiced rums I am used to drinking. Kilo Kai is overwhelmingly floral and soapy to my palate. The finish is nice: smooth, without too much alcohol burn, and with some subtle spice and fruit that linger, but the flowers are a powerful punch in the mouth. I have been keeping my distance from this one and just sampling occasionally to be sure I'm not crazy, but I'll probably try and give it away.
5 years ago I drank Kelo Kai exclusively . Loved the spice Vanilla splash. Then we moved to Tn, Al. and could not get it. Pensacola to the rescue. Publix special order. Liked it so much I ordered 5, 1.75 ML the large bottles . Figured this would do me a couple years. Light weight. VERY disapointed that there was no spice at all in it. WHAT HAPPENED.
I thought I'd try something new and picked this one up at my local liquor store. The scent is unique with an almost cinnamon overtone. Straight sipping is smooth and without burn, but it is not very interesting. Not the best rum and Coke, but I'll probably finish the bottle.
Cherry, cherry, cherry. Start, middle, and finish. If you like this flavoring in a rum it's for you. It's a smooth enough rum, and tastes like a kiddie cocktail when you mix with coke, but otherwise way too much cherry flavoring.
Harder to find in my area, but very close to Monkey run spiced. Smooth taste
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

It was pretty meh. I wasn't expecting much. I had hoped for a "rival" for Kraken's crown (which isn't saying a lot) in the realm of The Spice but it fell pretty short. It's thin and bitey (beyond the "spice") and ultimately is going in ginger beer until it's gone from my house. I'd say it's disappointing but my expectations were really low. It was recommended to me by a bourbon drinker, so how mad can I be at anyone but myself? In a nutshell it suffers from being VERY "watery," far too medicinal (CHERRY "hints") and the spices are (as always) too punchy. When I think baking spices in my rum, I always think subtlety is key like Pusser's baked ginger flavor and Goslings' subtle but noticeable spicy notes. However, "Spiced" rum always has to take it to a WEIRD level. It has to let you know that you have purchased a SPICED rum (spiced rum-molasses based lighter fluid through two columns with some harsh spicy crap thrown in at the end.) It literally tastes like someone took alcoholic water, dumped enough cherry into it until it tasted like Robutussin and then realized it was bad so they put a bunch of spices in it to mask the crapulence. I have NO idea why the words GOOD, SPICED and RUM can't get along but...whatever! Kraken is still king in that category, simply because nobody else is trying to win. Spiced rum is keepin' it weird as always...
