Beginning of the range. Could do worse, much better available though...

Not one of the fantastic Appleton Estate rums... I've heard this is made at the industrial Wray & Nephew distillery. This is harsh golden rum made for the lowest of mixed rum drinks. Much better than the bottom shelf swill, but still... just pony up the few extra dollars for the V/X and you'll get exponential betternesss.

I hate to rate this just a 5 considering it is a great entry level rum, but the rest of the Appleton greatness has spoiled me. I would keep a bottle of this on my shelf for mixing at all times. A good starter for Jamaican rum punch, with a little Wray and Nephew or Rum Bar Overproof to kick it up a notch... or two.

As entry level rums go, you could do A LOT WORST. This special rum is perfect for mixing if you want to still taste the flavour of a Jamaican styled rum in your mixed drink. Aromas of caramel, spices, toasted wood and a hint of rubber.
A medium finish of burnt caramel, toffee, with hints of banana and brown sugar.

I keep a bottle around to accompany my Mount Gay Eclipse. Pretty basic rum with good flavor and great price.
