Woody with pecan and spices nose and cocoa and tobacco taste with a coffee hint.
Incredibly smooth, easy to drink. I had far lesser expectation from Havana brand, but this is the proof, that cuban rums rules the world.
Only had it once, so I will not (can not) elaborate too much on this one. But I remember thinking it was a very sophisticated sipper. It might be the best Cuban in its price class.
For quite a while I was a bit hesistant to try this rum due the mixed reviews I've seen. Seems this rum is a bit of a hit or mis depending on your palate.
The very positive review of TheFatRumPirate eventually convinced me to order a bottle.
Was expecting a entry level sipper, but this is much more than that!
I pick up mostly some citrus and oak, not much sweetness, and a nice gentle burn delivered by the 45%ABV.
I liked it, but not right away. Comes on too strong, hits you with the alcohol. And then, after a while, the real taste comes through. Even being partial to sweeter rums I can appreciate its complexity. I would pour this rum and let it stand for a while before tasting. Or have it on the rocks.
Was excited on a recent visit to Cuba to try the new rums available. Honestly could tell the difference from the 7 year. Was it good, yes, but at that price, i would reach for the Santiago de Cuba. Easily disappears in a mixed drink.
It smells of apricot and peaches.
"Well blended and well-balanced spirit that it’s smoothness shines through. There is very little roughness or aggressive spirit tones when sipped."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Extremely well balanced rum with just the right amount of spice, molasses, woodsy, and even a little licorish. With a few ice cubes the flavour opens up well. Only downside is a slight rubbery and sour finish - I would have liked a little sweet kick at the end. Yet overall very solid sipping rum
