This rum is not something, I would enjoy. The smell is, well, like not really good whisky. The taste is at the beginning sweet a little bit, but I wasn´t able to distinguish any ingrediency. Then it seems to be smooth, but the rum will in a second return in a very kicky form. The ending is dry and a bit fruity.
If you want try a sample, but it is not worthy to buy a bottle.
I cannot understand the less than positive reviews for this rum. Folk complaining about an alcohol burn?, it is 45% proof an not that bad at all in my opinion.
So many beautiful and complex flavours in every sip. It reminds me somewhat of Smith and Cross's Traditional Jamaican Rum, which just explodes with flavours in every sip.
One of the tastiest rums I have experienced for a long time. Perfectly sweet and "spicey".
Visited the Depaz Distillery while vacationing at Martinique. Distillery tours were closed, so got the Depaz Vieux from a local grocery store at EUR 16 per bottle. Pretty decent old school bottle and label design. Traditional very dry Rhum Agricole notes followed by grass, strong oak and floral bouquet to your nose and palate. Strong burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can easily add 2 points to my score.
