This is a decent rum ... smooth and well worth a punt
Beautiful straw color, this still pot from Uitvlugt distillery has very floral, vegetable and herbaceous notes on the sugar cane with smoked aromas or even peaty. On the palate, this rum is very complex and fine, always on the vegetal notes. Nice finish in the mouth. Only 310 bottles.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Another pick in the Parter bar was Kill Devil Guyana Uitvlugt. It's a 16 yo rum from 1999, distilled in a Pod Still.
The aroma is mouldy, making me imagine an old, rotting woody barell. One can smell glue, grease and fresh cut grass. After some time in the glass, the sweetness of decay becomes substituted by milky notes, banana and almond. Further oxidation makes the aroma more sour, with some spiciness of herbs and sweet humid smoke.
In the mouth, the sensations are very intense. At first the rum is dry, with sugar-free molasses and bitter honey. A composition of sweet, salty and milky sensations brings to mind highly-mineralized water. Then this rum becomes slightly tart and the dominant tastes become grape peel, medical and herbal flavors, with a hint of bitter coffee. A dry, oaky finish is a bit disappointing, however minerals, earthy and grassy notes, together with oak, compose one of the most intense aftertastes I experienced.
Although the aromatic profile sounds off-putting, this rum is very pleasant. However, it requires focus and time to show its full potential. I was surprised by the intensity of flavours and the aftertaste.
