Tried this alongside a number of other competitors in our rum tasting. This was the clear winner, a bit dry but very interesting flavor profile. Nice presentation with the bottle & box. For the price, however, I would recommend Mount Gay XO to most people.
Závěr má krásný, dlouhý, komplexní a dřevitý. Příjemně hřeje.
Je to skvělý, koňak připomínající, prémiový rum.
Doporučuji!
Pour this one in a Glencairn and let it sit for a while... then enjoy.
Molasses, Vanilla, Nutmeg, Caramel and Banana all take turns on the nose.
The palate is smooth and clean with burnt sugar and spice adding to the what was experienced on the nose.
Worth the price to be in your cabinet as a measuring stick.
I am a huge fan of Mount gay, in my opinion they absolutely set the bar for English style rum production. To be the 1703 Master Select is the epitome of their line. This is my go to for any occasion. A must have for any collection.
More delicate version of the XO (I had direct comparison). Without any alcohol odour at all. More of date in honey in the scent. Less of wood.
In the taste its again pine wood, resin, moss, dark forrest fruits, honey. All delicately embraced by the gentlest rum I have ever tasted. Compared to XO the wood is little more in the background and other flavours are more pronounced (more leathery and creamy?). Especially the dark forrest fruits and honey taste are amazing.
Top stuff. Everyone should try this one at least once in their lifes. Prefer XO on most occasions though. Its a little bit rougher, but all the taste notes are there, though differently balanced (see above).
Rum started in Barbados.......this rum proves it. Its perfectly balaneced and great neat or on a spherical ice cube.
Just the pleasure to drink. Smoky, fruity palate. Hint of natural sweetness. Spirit bites gently at the first sip, then disappears. Long long aftertaste.
Definitely the drink for the special occasions (might be not for quarantine :) ).
His younger brother X.O. scored 9 for me, so Master Select is 10 because it's more solid, more delicious.
Cheers! Stay healthy!
this is really good, nice amber/copper color, let sit 10-15 minutes in the glass and than boom,
in the mouth an explosion of brown sugar, some orange peel and apricot,
long toffee sweet finish, it is expensive (even more in my country, around 175 euro)
but i have to admit its really a good rum !
in fact it s very similar to their XO just all enhanced, stronger in the nose and mouth,
it was way too expensive but i gave 10 to this because is really the best i ve tried so far ...

A nice spicy entry which is quite woody.
"The nose is full of chewy toffee, banana, caramel, brown sugar and that signature coconut."

Very complex rum for special occasions 10 out of 10
Did a Masterclass with Mount Gay ambassador, Mr Chester Browne, who was really fabulous and a great man. Had this one as the last one in the tasting, and I don't know if it was because Mr Browne was so enthusiast about this and I felt his emotions through his words but this one has some real layers. First you can feel apricot right after that vanilla, but it is subtle, it doesn't bother you (I'm not a vanilla fan), then it comes to you freshly baked pastry, and then the wood. It's really round in the mouth, complex, no burn at all, and a very long finish, I wish it never ended. Truly an experience to be done at least once. Not an everyday rum, just for special occasions. After this one I didn't had any other rum that day, it was the perfect ending.
