Coffee, chocolate, caramel and chili on the nose.
Maple syrup, coffee, cocoa and dill on the palate.

Sugar: 26 gpl. This is a sweet dark rum. In the glass it smells like burnt sugar, Chocolate, cherries, vanilla, and oak and it tastes that way as well. It's very smooth with a bit of a bite at first but that goes away quickly and the rum goes down quite easily. It doesn't have a long finish and has a moderate after burn. It is quite enjoyable and is a big step up from the other Gosling rums. Mixing this rum would be a waste as it already has a bit of Cola taste in it. Not sure if it is worth the price tag in terms of a repurchasing. I liked it, but didn't like it enough to buy a second bottle right away. I give this a 6.5 for taste and a half point for the packaging.

One of the very best rums I have had, whether it is worth the $60 price tag is a matter of preference. I would likely rather have a bottle of Mt gay extra old and a bottle of El Dorado 12, but this is one any rum lover should try once. Everything an aged rum should be - rich, complex, fruity, woody, with a sweet finish.

I was not impressed on first class, it wasn’t as smooth or flavorful as I would have expected. I’ve seen it written that this one needs time to breathe, I’ll give that a shot

Interesting slightly spicy aroma, immediate flavour is of a much stronger rum. Lots of oak, more spice, burnt sugar, finish is much smoother than the first impression

Dark and weighty. Appears to be devoid of added sugar. There’s molasses, honey and a touch of vanilla in a long, complex finish. It gets better with time in the glass.

A great sipping rum, love the coffee finish and aroma. Just very expensive when shipping is included

The Goslings Family Reserve Old Rum comes from Bermuda and is produced by the Gosling family. It is probably a blend of column and pot style and is stored tropically in oak barrels for 16 years. It is bottled in drinking strength of 40% and contains 15 g/l sugar in additives. It is probably also colored with caramel.

First of all, the nose is surprisingly appealing. All very dark with dark chocolate, mocha, leather and wood. In addition, vanilla and roasted aromas. A spicy but round nose with some dried fruit and caramel. On the palate, the rum is clearly of the sweet variety. But also dark again. Dark chocolate, candied fruit and brown sugar, mocha and caramel and a good wood influence with a hint of tropical fruit. For the finish, more coffee, mocha and bitter substances.

What shall I say. I am bothered by the 40% because the rum looks thin on the palate and fads away quickly. I am bothered by the sugar, which makes the rum unnecessarily sweet. The very dark profile is interesting and looks harmonious. The presentation appealing. But overall, not exciting for me. But as a gift, I would be quite happy, because there are really worse rums out there.

Was soll ich sagen.

Tasted at Laka Lono 5/2/22 on Admiral Night
This was a horrifying rum, but since I am rum-positive it still gets three stars.
notes: This rum's flavor perception quickly went medicinal and dusty. YIKES!

My wife bought this for me for my anniversary 5 years ago. I was finally convinced to open it. Worth it. It has a fantastic colour and aroma. The caramel and cherry are fantastic. This is a a great rum top ten from my collection, just outside my personal top five.

An excellent sipping rum, truly enjoyable neat. Medium to full body with a smooth finish. My go to rum - neat. Fruity and dry.
