Gosling's Black Seal rum

Gosling's Black Seal

Bermuda | Dark | 40% ABV

The James Gosling family business first produced Gosling Black Seal rum in 1806, and it is now the oldest surviving business on the island of Burmuda.

Gosling 'Black Seal' rum received it's name from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. It is Bermuda's most widely exported product and considered the nation's national drink.

I think this stuff is to rum what Guinness is to beer - something different, and not for everyone.

It's not terribly good neat, but is nice in gingerale (can't find a sugar-free ginger beer).

I think I'd buy it on occasion, but not keep it on hand

Strong rum with a solid burn, a flavour which lingers, better served chilled with a quality ginger beer. Worth a look.

Pretty much the entry level black strap rum and the official mixer for a Dark 'n' Stormy (definition: blackstrap rum + ginger beer + lime).

If you like traditional Stormies, use Goslings Black Strap. For something a little less boring, use Cruzan Black Strap (smells like heaven). And, for something completely different, use Kraken Spiced Rum. All three of these rums are in the same price range, typically less than $20.

It's not as dark as one might think. I expected something black and heavy but the appearance really did reflect the experience. That is to say, a little thick/creamy with mostly caramel and a hint of molasses, some spice at the finish. A little too astringent as it is rather acidic, drier and although highly recommended with ginger beer, I preferred it on the rocks.

rhum original, goût prononcé, caramélisé, robe très foncée

The only Rum for a Dark and Stormy, but use a good ginger beer. On it's own it's not the smoothest rum out there but has very rich raisin fruit taste.

Great rum with smooth flavour not a special rum but one that you need in your collection. A weekend afternoon drink on the deck.

As everyone else has said this is best for the dark and stormy, and it does that very well. One of my favorite cocktails. reevaluated and I had to give it one more point compared to the other dark rums I have had recently

Bought this to make authentic Dark & Stormy's and to that end this does not disappoint. Do not, however, recommend as a rocks or neat rum. A bit harsh for that.

Sickly sweet and no depth. It burns no via alcohol but by acidity. Ok for mixing I guess but there are far better rums at this price point (27 Canadian).

I tried making a dark and stormy with ginger beer and I couldn't finish it - just too strong. I thought it might be the beer, but then I mixed it with Kracken and it was much better. It just has too much of a bitter bite for me.
