Under £40 a bottle is great value. Typically Dominican: sweet and buttery with an oaky finish. Tiny bit of burn and not too complex a finish but thoroughly enjoyable.

Bought it for sipping but found it good for mixing. It tastes a bit strong but has a great smell. A good one but not as i’ve expected.

In the nose a lot of cherries, cherry leaves, cherries in chocolate, currant. Taste a lot of mold, barrel and cherry, also leaves and wood. A tan, tea finish. And cherries. Rum for cherry lovers.

This must be the better Barcelo Imperial, that was quite pleasant but also a little bit weak. This one has also only 38% abv. A little bit too weak, I would prefer 43%.

I get a lot of oak in the nose. There are some similarities to some woody rums like Mount Gay XO Triple Cask or Flor de Cana. Almost the same oaky nose with some orange peels. Some dry fuits, some grape seeds and vanilla are also in the nose.
The taste starts woody and a little bit sweet, not as light as Imperial. Not too bad for 38%. I get the orange peels, some paper, burned sugar and some grape seeds. The rum finishes with spice, wood and earthy barrel, dark dry fuits.
Enjoyable rum, not very complex, with more abv it could be better. Therefore 73 rating points.

I like the Barcelos in general because they are more mild in the finish. MG XO is more spicy and heavy in the taste.

Smell: oak/wood, dry fruits, some grape seeds, orange peels, caramel, vanilla
Taste: oak, caramel, orange peels, paper, burned sugar, grape seeds
Finish: spice, wet barrel, dark fruit
Aftertaste: wood/wet barrel, orange peels and caramel

Sweetness: 1.5/5
Fruit: 2/5
Spice: 2/5
Mildness: 4/5
Value (33€): 3/5

Rund mit dezenter süße. Recht weich, aber auch etwas alkoholisch. Feine Würze. Leider etwas wenig Körper und Tiefe. Im Abgang leicht herb und wärmend.

Similar to the Imperial but has a darker color and a more pronounced oak and vanilla nuances.

Precis lagom söt och fruktig. Karamell och vanilj med tydlig smak av fat. Känner inte alla av något rökigt som andra skriver. Mycket prisvärd!
