"Dirty", heavy, surprisingly flavourful at only 46°, quite "jamaican" in a way but still different. These rums from Fiji are more and more interesting and have their own character and specificities. Don't even try this if you are into sweetened ron but if you like pungeant jamaicans and this kind of rums you could give this rum a chance.
To me, this is not unlike whisky in some sense: It is dirty, full of flavours, and not sweetened. A bit rough around the edges, it delivers. Burnt molasses, bourbony notes, vanilla and some funk - Fiji and Jamaica making slightly similar rums? Possible.
Only 355 bottles made.
Long fruity flavour, balanced, but nothing special. Just a average product
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The Kill Devil Fiji 14years is a rum from the South Pacific Distillery, which was stored continental for 14 years and was probably produced in the pot still. The rum was bottled with 46% alcohol without additives.
The rum is super aggressive in the nose with intense ester notes. The focus is on adhesives and solvents. The rum has acidity and sharpness and the nose should not be put too deep into the glass. There is some fruit. For 46% surprisingly intense without it becoming complex. On the palate, it is surprising that the rum looks a bit watery. The rum can not repeat the intensity here. Some tropical fruit comes with spice, some mint and glue. He has a certain funk that saves the whole thing. The finish is pleasant with a little more barrel influence, but is a bit too short for me.
Overall, the Kill Devil is not balanced enough. The nose is very direct, but the palate cannot keep up. The rum lacks a certain complexity. There are much better ones in the same price range.
