Strong notes of burnt caramel and clove initially. Transitions into bold oaky dried fruit with a nice hogo funkiness to balance it out. Certainly a good amount of heat but theres so much flavor competing for attention, it oddly sort of just adds to the experience. Certainly nothing subtle about this rum and dangerously easy to drink over ice.

Great mixer. Will kick your ass so imbibe with caution.
Dark molasses brown sugar and clove spice with a hot finish.

Solid choice for an overproof rum. Couldn't really complain

Now this has some taste in it. It‘s has typical jamaican flavors which I don‘t like normally but is very well balanced in this overproof. Excellent rum at this cost.

I haven't found a rum in the "dark" category that I like more than this. It is great in Tiki drinks, floating on other rum cocktails, or sipping slowly on the rocks. I can't seem to put my finger on it, but there's something about this rum that just cheers me up... oh yeah, maybe it's the 138 proof.

Dunkles rotbraun.

It's a typical navy strength rum, it's dominated by Demerara with Hampden.
I don't prefer too much Hampden (apple) flavour in navy blends. A similar Rum with the overweight on the Hampden side is Eight Islands.
It's better than kill devil navy style, it was too spicy for me and also better than eight Islands.
For the price it's good if you like navy rums.

The nose is molasses based with Demerara honey and very intensive Hampden apple.

As I said, the Apple from Hampden is very present (it's like a concentrated Smith&Cross Rum in combination with Demerara rum (Pussers).
If you are into sweet or mild rums, avoid it under all circumstances.
I tried to dilute it to 50%. It lost some fruity aromas became milder but was still spicy. It works also with the dilution but the nose got weaker, the taste was still good.

Nose (don't stick your nose to deep, it will bite you): molasses, honey, sour apple, tropical fruits (papaya), some rotten fruits (dunder), oak, burned sugar, barrel and earth
Taste initial: molasses, honey, sour apple (Smith&Cross), dunder (rotten fruits)
Middle: papaya, agave, spiiiiiiiice, earth, dunder, wine
Finish: long as hell, spicy as hell, salted papaya, I already said spiiiiiicy? honey, apple, mint

The balance could be better. Jamaica with Guyana are out of control. I think we need a rum in this blend which reduces the spiciness and not that much Jamaica rum. If you dilute it, the Demerara flavors get too weak and Hampden gets too strong. The spice will be still there.

Sweetness: 2/5
Fruits: 3.5/5
Spice: 5/5
Mildness: 1.5/5
Intensity: 6/5
Value (22€): 4/5
Experience level: expert (if you never tasted a rum under 60% keep your hands off it)

Tried to drink it on ice, I have read a recommendation here. The nose became mild, there is still the apple and some dunder (fermented fruits) with honey and burned sugar (I try to catch some caramel, but it's just an imagination).
Taste is like an unsweetened ice cream first and then the dunder with molasses became more and more intensive, some burned sugar at the end. The cold mouthfeel turns into burning fire. This rum is still spicy.
The bitterness is more intensive because of the cold (wood turns into bitterness, if you cool it). But ice can not kill this rum, this rum is a hot lava that fears no ice.
I think it works also on ice, but I would rather dilute it with water.

As an inexperienced rum taster, I probably shouldn’t try things like this neat and expect to understand the subtle flavours- it’s strong . That’s all my level of tasting can reveal at this stage! Will review again when I know what I’m doing !

This seems specifically made for tiki, even consulting some of the historians of the era. The result is a smoother rum than the overproof percentage suggests, and with a variety of notes: coffee to start, then caramel, with that "hogo funk" taste you expect from Original Plantation. As the marketing suggests, this one of the few good rums suitable for an authentic old-school Zombie, but it's complex enough to try on its own.

Enjoyable rum with multiple hints of flavor. Strong but can be enjoyed on ice.

British style navy rum with old furniture polish and punch confectionery nose, high abv makes it inaccessible like all other overproof rums.
