Well not very good but also not that bad. Smell is woody and smoky, little bit of spice. Taste is slightly better than smell. Flavours of oak, spice and sugar cane.. I would rate it 5,6...

I don't know what the National drink of Nepal is but I am guessing it is not rum. Taste more like a chemical than rum.

Had just a sample for this tasting so it’s just a first impression.
Had no expectations at all, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought. But it’s not that good that I will buy me a bottle.
It’s produced by Nepal Distilleries Private Limited in Kathmandu which started up in 1959. They are mostly known for that one of their bottles that’s shaped like an Nepalese Gurkha knife.
It’s distilled from molasses in a three column still whereafter it’s matured in some kind of special wooden oak vats.
They never empty the vats completely so the youngest rum seems to be just 8 months old while the oldest in the the blend could be quite old, but that age isn’t mentioned. It’s bottled at an ABV of 42,8%.
I can recognize vanilla, caramel, flowers and hints of licorice and menthol. These aromas and flavors goes from the nose via the mouth and palate to the finish which is medium long.
Picture: My emptied sample.

Rökig, gummi, vidrig, plåt, metall, absolut inte igen. God doft dock, helt missvisande.

Blommig nästan parfymig smak som biter direkt, smakade som kryddat brännvin. Ingen hit.

It does have notes of burned sugar and caramel, but on the slightly bitter side, with sweetness as well. It does not explode on impact, but has a pleasent taste and aftertaste. I could easily drink more of this.

More than anything, for me, Khukri was part of an adventure in Nepal. For that, it was great. It is widely available even when far from habitation in the Everest region. It gets considerably more pricey but that is to be expected.

Back in Kathmandu it is not particularly expensive and for a rum enthusiast it is worth at least tasting. However, that is about all of the nice things to be said about this rum. The aroma is pretty synthetic vanilla. The taste follows the same and is not very pleasant. I'm glad I gave it a try but this is not one you are excited to have an extra bottle to take home.

No clue why this has such a bad rating. In my opinion this is an ok rum with big vanilla notes, oak and caramel with some nepaleses spices.

My neighbor just returned from Everest Base Camp and was kind enough to think of me while shopping in Nepal. He brought home a bottle of Khurkri XXX Rum for me. Neither of us were expecting much as Nepal is about as far away from sugar cane country as one can get, but the novelty of it was interesting.

There's nothing on the label to suggest that this rum started with sugar cane, but it does mention Himalayan spring water, matured wooden vats and a cool highland climate. Aromas of baking spices ( vanilla, cinnamon and clove) are quickly interrupted by an intense burn on the first sip that makes its way into the sinuses to reside there for a less than comfortable experience. I don't get any impressions that this rum gained its flavor from fermentation or aging. The caramel and vanilla on the tongue taste like additives. And the lingering vapors in the sinuses tend to bring on a headache. Not a sipping rum, that much is for certain,.

All that being said, Nepal is making rum (or trying to). And that's okay with me. I'd still rather drink this in a cocktail than Captain Morgan's or Kraken.
