Abuelo XV Tawny Port Cask Finish

now this is a flight! discovered the 12 year year Abuelo recently and wanted to do a deeper dive it was so good. All 3 of these cask finishes were amazing but this port finish stood just a bit taller than the rest. what separated these apart was the smell and taste. smelled like chocolate. these 3 tastings will put me over 100 and I have never been so happy with 3 rums. Search this out! you wont be disappointed.

Sugar estimated at 30 GPL. Compared the Port cask finish with the Sherry cask finish and the Port cask rum is a bit smoother and aromatic. I like a well aged Tawny Port and that tips the taste scale for me. A nice mahogany colour in the glass with a lot of aroma that follows up in the taste. For me I smell and taste the sweet Port, dried fruit, tobacco, leather, vanilla, brown sugar, wood and a touch of smoke. Let it breath and be sure to take in the aroma before that first sip. I have the Abuelo Centuria in my collection and I would put this rum as a notch or so below it. A solid 9 rating

Nagyon finom rum, ajánlom annak aki szereti a nagyon "intenzív" rumokat

Beautiful deep dark color. Give it a firm swirl a Glencairn glass and you can catch traces of the deep tawny port maroon chasing the caramel around the bowl.
Well rounded, warm sweet dusty vanilla on the nose. At some point it might have passed by an oak barrel.
Full of rum character, the port seeps through the middle and dies out as caramel sweetness dances around the edges of the tongue.

I really wasn’t expecting much with this but was really surprised how much I enjoyed it the port wasn’t overpowering and with each sip it became more complex.

Flavor: oh wow. This could be an ice cream sundae topping. How did they cram a toffee dark chocolate candy bar into a bottle? With a tiny bit of cherry... This is amazing.

Top rum. Truly worth every penny. The port is very noticeable in the taste. Smooth, balanced, excellent. I recommend it to everyone.

Let it breath. It is a day and night if you sip it initially after opening compared to few hours later and especially compared to day 2. This is really a nice sweet rum offering a unique experience.
