The nose is ....different and not appealing. I am thinking 4 rating. The first sip is pungent with an odd mix of cinnamon, orange and molasses. I am thinking 5. The next sip starts to interest me. I have another. Nutmeg comes crashing through. Suddenly I realize this has some complexity and depth. Some nice bite too. I am thinking 6. The nutmeg really lingers. Nice finish. What was once a 4 has really won me over. Different. Good, in fact, very good.
In the rum group that Iβm a member of on Facebook, DMF not only as a rum, but as a brand, polarises opinions, with some members saying they are to commercial and that to many chemicals are used, making their rums taste artificial. While others would argue that every single flavour is simply divine. As for me. Well I loved the coconut rum and this spiced flavoured one is more than ok. It smells quite vanillary at first, giving you the anticipation of this rum tasting more sugary than peppery. But oh no. What the good folk at DMF have somehow managed to achieve, is to create a rum that simultaneously caresses your tastebuds with sweetness and jolts them with a heated after kick. Now most people would probably say that having a rum that is both sweet and spicy in the same glass should not and does not work. But I politely disagree. Neat for me, Iβm not so keen, as itβs a little to fiery for my sweet tooth to handle. But add Coca-Cola and this rum becomes a pleasant long drink, with a heated kick that will keep the cold at bay.
The cinnamon spicing of this rum strongly comes through and makes for a unique flavour.
I really wasn't expecting much from this very hyped rum but was pleasantly surprised. Bottled at 40% rather than the 37.5 shown on videos I've seen. Very vanilla forward but not cloyingly so..
Some spices , very sweet and a bit of a burn at the finish. I actually preferred sipping this with an ice cube than mixing with coke. But I won't bother with the rest of their range... too gimmicky.
My son got me onto this drink, wasnt expecting to much as I think the packaging looks a little tacky but the taste was suprisingly good. Unfortunatly they have dabbled with a number of flavored rums which im not a great fan of to be honest. The mixer is used to flavour the rum, not the rum!
I believe this is one of the best rums out there especially when you consider the price it mixes with everything really well it is my go to rum!
Really like the nose, brilliant mixed with coke. An absolute best buy at its price.
For under $50AUD its not a bad drop. In Aus Captin morgan and Sailor Jerry cost more than this and I would say it would be on par. Therefore given the price I cant really complain. Spiced with minimal burn and only a small kick.
Itβs not all vanilla but the other notes are equally safe and equally popular. Cinnamon, citrus peel and some very sweet caramel.
"In actual fact the orange peel/marmalade notes really shine through. Itβs reasonably complex β some nice more natural tasting notes of cinnamon, brown sugar and a little saffron spice."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

There is pronounced clove and spices in smell, the taste is strong cloves, cinnamon, orange peel, ginger and other spices I associate with Christmas. The rum body of Dead Man's fingers is almost non existent in the spice inferno. The overall feeling is as if I am drinking mulled wine. For me it is not a good news as this spice combination I really do not like in cold drinks - so drinking neat is out of question, with coke it is also not for me. In tea it is ok. If you like cloves and heavily spiced rums (I dont), you can easily add 4 stars.
