A little dry for my taste and wasnt overly impressed. I much prefer the flavors in their 12 yr , 8 yr and VX.

This review is for the newer pictured bottling. I felt that I could not detect much complexity in this rum nor much nuance at all. Maybe my batch was off but I did not feel much oak for 21 year old rum and very little complexity. I feel as though this was very similar to the 12 year sadly but priced much higher in a fancier bottle. Don't get me wrong its a nice rum its not bad its decent but not worth it at all if you are looking for a differing experience from the 12 year in my thoughts. Not recommended.

First off, this is good aged rum. Nice notes of caramel, vanilla, molasses, oak, raisins, ginger, and plum. A little funk. Very well put together. Give this to a whisky drinker who says they don't like rum. Gateway rum.

That said, in my opinion, this is hurt by it being bottled at just 43%; the finish is short to medium. For the price (around $150), I would want this at a higher ABV (ideally cask strength) and I bet it would be terrific and a fair value.

This is a quality spirit, but I ding it for the proof and price.

I originally tasted this paired against El Dorado 21 and quite enjoyed it. I then bought a bottle and was not that impressed. There was a large amount of white floating sediment (pretty sure it's ok perhaps sugar crystallisation as I still drank it and I'm still alive?). Taste didn't wow me compared to El Dorado 21 and Zacapa XO which I also bought bottles of. Also I contacted Appleton Estate about quality issues and no response. Their facebook feed link from their website no longer worked and last tweet was a year ago so not sure what's happening there

I want to like this rum because it’s hard to find and expensive but it finishes with that same plastic taste of mass produced liquor. The oak flavor and mellow heat are good but I can’t get around the aftertaste. I couldn’t recommend spending the money on it, but if someone offers you a sample try it for yourself.

Generic rum smell. Quite oaky and very smooth taste. Not sweet enough for my liking, but a good rum if that's what suits you

A "lighter" sipping rum, reminiscent of a brandy. hints of citrus, spice & sugars on the nose, offers a room filling bouquet when poured. Classic Jamaican style, more impressive packaging than in my youth. Essential to any distinctive home collection!

Pretty one dimensional...no complexity at all. If you're a bourbon lover and dig oaky sippers, this rum is for you.

Was disappointed, it lost all its character just for smoothness
Prefer 12 oddly enough
