El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year

YU
had this rum recently

Guyana | Aged | 43% ABV

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

This, my friends, is Rum. Not fussy, not overworked, just delicious. I take it neat.

Of course, this is more adult, but my tongue prefers its younger sweeter brother 12y.

This one definitely beats it's younger brother. It doesn't quite match the 21 year old, but it comes quite close. To me this is the best value for money you can get from El Dorado.

I waited a while before I was finally able to find this bottle in Pennsylvania. The bottle is slightly tinted, so the rum is not as dark as in bottle. It is quite smooth with a nice finish. I don't taste all the flavors as others describe, but it is still enjoyable.

The 12 year El Dorado us spectacular, but adding 3 years turns it into the much harsher 15. If you have a choice, get the 12 instead of this.

El Dorado 15 Special Reserve. Has a dark Amber color. Good legs on the glass. Aroma reminds of vanilla and toffee. It seems like a medium body rum not too sweet. Afterburn is mild and not lasting long. A good sipper.

Just a little too heavy for me. I'll trade you for a couple bottles of 8 year. I still think it should be in everyone's bar cabinet, just for the times when you want something extra.

Wonderful rum based on demarara sugar. Beautiful amber color with full bodied carmelly, rum nose at the onset. Wonderful complexity at the beginning, complex lingering taste with a hint of spice. And did I say affordable? Great sipper, which is how I enjoy it the most.

Sweetness at the start with a wonderful rolling spice that cools off by a soft syrupy finish.

My favorite reasonably priced sipping rum. Smooth and not too sweet. Vanilla, caramel, sweet and spicy.

This ED15 is truly a nice rum. I would have rate it 8.5 with the 0.5 over my rating of 8 for the ED 12. Price wise in the Ontario, Canada rum market selling for ~60CAD does not represent as much of a good value as its younger brother ED12. The only reason why I did not rank it higher is because I leave my two top rating points for truly fantastic cases which "may" only be found outside my current price range (to be seen). I certainly recommend this spirit especially if you don't mind the sweetness. If you need to add anything else to this one (ice cube included) you cannot call yourself a rum lover.

Later edit: After trying this spirit for a while I have started minding its swetnees. While I still believe its a nice rum I have stopped recommending it as a daily sipper.
