El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year

Guyana | Aged | 43% ABV

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

It's tasty rum but with 9 spoons of added sugar per liter (that's 7 per bottle), I cannot take this stuff seriously. Come on, El Dorado, cut the crap.

Picked up a bottle of El Dorado 12 yr. Old today (15 Bonus Air Miles) at my local NLC store at a price of $34.36 Cdn. I already owned a bottle of El Dorado 15 year old I'd picked up a while back that quite impressed me. I had read a review if the 12 that suggested it was even better than the 15 and given the price difference ($52.43) I thought I'd give it a try. I compared them both neat and on ice also having my wife do a blind tastes test both ways. We both agreed that the 15 was the much smoother. The 12 had a harshness that the 15 lacked. That being said, they are both very nice rums. The 12 had a much stronger nose and was easier to drink as the ice melted in the glass. The 15 was much nicer neat and smooth on the palate. Only wish I had made a comparison to my Kirk and Sweeney and even Captain Morgan Private Stock. Another night another tasting. Full review after that happens.

This is a wonderfully demerara rum, dark brown and sweet with excellent aftertaste.
.can be drunk straight or with ice and fresh lime. I have tried the range up to 21 y/o
And this trumps them all,

I normally limit rum to put in a Coke Zero and usually do not drink rum by itself but this one is a rare exception. Yes, it works extremely well in Coke Zero but also is delicious straight. Quite smooth. Some people consider it too sweet but I don't get an overabundance of such. I detect a bit of sweetness and good warmth when sipped. Definitely one to enjoy in cola, as a mixer and on the rocks. Extremely versatile. I'm no expert but I know what I like and this one definitely is high on my list.

Un rhum à avoir, assez facile d'accès, tres qualitatif vu le prix.
Du fruit exotique, des épices, sucré mais pas trop

I had the chance to find it in a bar because I was hesitating to buy it. I found it very strong and spicy with notes of raisins as many say. The sugar is well balanced but for whatever reason I did not really enjoyed it that much

The bottle is brown to green, quite broad and short and has a natural cork stopper with a plastic cap. Could be more appealing....
The copper-brown rum has a sweet smell, full of ripe fruits tohether with oak and vanilla. It is very sweet on the palate and the taste is totally balanced, full and pleasent. I really like its strong sweeteness of brown sugar. The taste is mostly of ripe fruits and oak, together with vanilla and leather and has hints of aged plum brandy. It leaves a pleasant aftertaste for a quite long time. El Dorado 15 rum can recommended without any reservation.
