El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.
The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

To me it has a one note type taste. I like to add it to TIKI drinks to add richness. 1 oz of this with other rums.
After enjoying this mighty fine rum ....I noticed , that the younger brother of this , the 12 year old .....was MUCH more flavourful !..
It has a nice colour to it and a nose of woodyness. Not as sweet as other rums and the oakbarrel and dark chocklate stands out to me. Hints of fruitiness but mosty wood and almost the bitterness of dark chocklate. Very good, but not my favorite.
the eldorado 15 is more an adult rum, than the 12 years old. the 12 is more sweet, the 15 less. it has more proof (43) and thats very good, alcohol is a carrier of taste. the navy style rum is a deep and smokey full bodied rum. caramell, dry fruit, smoke and the special wooden touch. tasty, but a sweet rum.
Nice spicey, black fruits, i think a bit of tobacco taste and orange. I like it. It s a bit better than the 12years .with a bit ice it is delicious
sophisticated rum with notes of caramel, oak, and dried fruits. Velvety texture, long finish.
This is superior to the 12 year in my opinion by a decent margin. They are different for sure, but this is much more to my liking. In fact it is almost the opposite of the 12 year. The nose is almost overwhelming with heavy Banana and molasses and just a touch of tobacco. Imagine smelling a jar of concentrated molasses made from banana. If you take too deep of a whiff it is overwhelming. It almost made me worry about the taste...but....nope, it is delicious. The first taste is pure nutmeg and honey. Mid palate the banana returns in full force along with butter, butterscotch, nutmeg, rum cake, honey, and just a hint of fine tobacco. The aftertaste is sour cherry, alcohol, and allspice with banana lingering in the background. The only reason this isnโt a full 9 is that there is a slight lingering sourness that remains that I canโt quite place. The nose and palate to this rum are so powerful and complex that they make sipping this a wonderful experience.
*Update* So the more I drink this rum, the more I enjoy it. Further, despite other reviews, 6 months after having opened the bottle, the originals flavors and notes are still present and the rum has not degraded much despite the reported higher sugar level. Therefore given my increased level of enjoyment and shelf life beyond expectation, I am bumping this rum up a point.

"El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
Has more oak and chocolate notes.
"It is initially very sweet, apples, bananas and rum soaked raisins but there are also some bittersweet plum like notes. The finish is spicy and fruity and long lasting."
