Tasted this against Mount Gay Eclipse, and Doorley's XO. This is much smoother than the XO and has more hints of tropical fruit. I would consider this for sipping, with ice, or with limited cocktail ingredients.

Unadulterated aged Bajan rum with great natural oak and vanilla flavor. Not as smooth as the 12 year but without being too hot. It has more sweetness and vanilla than the 12 as well and a fruitier younger taste that is very good. Not as aged raisiny tasting as the 12. Another great Bajan from Doorly's. Update: Another way to describe it is like RL Seale's 10yr but fruitier and sweeter. Maybe because of some of the younger rum flavor in the blend. It's not quite as smooth as Seale's 10. However the mild burn works in its own delicious way and brings out tropical fruit into the taste. I like that it definitely tastes like rum while the Doorly's 12 in comparison starts to taste like whisky after so much time in the barrel.Update: I like it even more than the 12 yr and definitely more than the XO. While the XO is smoother and more banana comes through, the 8yr is noticeably oaky and you can taste the dryish bourbon flavor which I really enjoy in my rum. Can't recommend it enough.

The brand Doorly’s was founded in 1908 by Martin Doorly & Company, but is since 1992 owned and some years later produced by Foursquare and Mr. Richard Seale.
The 8yo is a rather new bottling in the Doorly’s line-up that saw the light of day in 2016, in the beginning mentioned for the Australian market.
It’s a single blended rum, a combination of column and pot still, aged in former bourbon casks of American oak whereafter it’s bottled without any dosage or additives at 40%.
The aromas is fruity, woody and spicy with hints of vanilla and coconut.
In mouth and at palate is complex, woody, spicy, sweet and smooth with tastes of coconut, tobacco, cinnamon, orange and vanilla.
The medium long finish is round with tastes of vanilla, oak, chocolate and spices with a little bitterness.
Overall a good everyday rum, especially when taking the price into account.

A big step up from the very good 5 yo and maybe a little fruitier than the 12, which is a personal favorite. IDK if there are different barrels in the mix, but the character is different enough from the 12 to offer a different perspective. I like it!

Sugar test-Are you kidding?

Not bad, especially for the price, though I actually prefer Doorly's XO over this one. The flavor is drier than the XO and, actually, a little less robust. They are very similar so get whatever's cheapest.

Very strong butterscotch and "rum" flavor. Rather oaky and dry. A tad bitter.

Admittedly, I am a person with a champagne taste with a beer budget. I am always searching for the best rum that I can both enjoy on the rocks while keeping my finances in check. Recently, while at the local “adult beverage” store, I was met with a vast selection of rums. I opened my RumRatings app and read the Doorly’s 8 reviews. I am glad I did! This is one of the finest rums, at this price point, that I have ever tasted. The taste is bold and mature for an 8 year old vintage. There is no reason to go to a spiced rum for boldness when one can enjoy a few sips of this rum. Thanks to all for their thoughtful comments on Doorly’s 8, you have gained a friend. Solute!

So far i have tried Doorly's 5, XO and now this one. One of the best outhere. I like it more than the other two. Excellent aroma and oaky vanilla. It's a little bit dry, which I like. Also, there is some little burn at the end, enough to tickle your palate. Overall very delicious and pricewise as well. I will give 9, because i expect much from his big brother Doorly's 12 years.

Better than the XO, but just a bit below the 12 year. Absolutely cannot be missed if you are on the search for wonderful rums.

Found this at Total Wine in Daytona Beach. I tried this 8 year before once, and it did not disappoint. Good price.
From Four Square.

Really nice rum at a great $25 price. Semi-sweet and dry with just a bit of spice and slight caramel and toffee to tickle the taste buds. aftertaste is slightly woody. And like all true Bajan rums, no added sugars!!! For the exact same price point I find that Stades No. 8 (another Bajan rum) is a bit more complex with the flavors and slightly better but this is without a doubt a really great value rum. Will buy again for sure but will really try to find the 14 year as I am really looking forward to that one

Unlike with some oaky rums, you can tell this one is a rum, not a whiskey. It's not as dry as whiskey or oaky rums, and it has some of that slightly vanilla-y sweetness that is popularly associated with rum. It isn't overpoweringly oaky. I'm not a fan of whiskey, or other oaky rums, but I enjoy Doorly's 8
