The Malecon Rare Proof Small Batch 1996 is a limited special edition. The rum was allowed to be stored in oak barrels for 20 years before being bottled without dyes. The rum has 48.4% alcohol. The bottle has the Malecon typical design, which I personally find very beautiful. The bottle is stored in a wooden show box. Makes it very classy.

In the Nose the Malecon already hints at what he has to offer without being intrusive. Fruit and caramel. Vanilla and clear oak notes. On the palate, the rum literally explodes and is directly very complex. It greets a lot of sweetness like caramel but also spice and some wood with a nice warmth which comes from the 48% alcohol. The rum balances everything very well and is therefore soft and pleasant to drink. He has a full body and a velvety consistency. In the finish there is more wood from the barrel with a fruity touch. Here the rum makes a point landing. At the end, there is a slight sweet barrel note, which then subsides a little too quickly. Overall, the rum is an absolute recommendation and fully meets expectations for 65 Euros. I would argue that it is hard to get a similar quality for less money.

I was already very enthusiastic about the Malecon 25 years, which presents a successful mixture of sweetness and wood. For me, The Rare Proof from Malecon is an increase in that. The focus here is more on the sweetness. However, the perfectly integrated 48% alcohol makes it the more complex rum of the two.

Beautiful bronze color with flavors of oak, molasse, chocolate. Good sweet fruity taste and complex with minerals flavor. With a normal finish it's a nice discovery.

Tested this on Birka Cruises rum cruise on the Baltic Sea, and have now bought me two bottles together with two bottles of the 18 year old Rare Proof.
The aroma is sweet, nutty and fruity. In mouth the aromas is still there but together with some spicy notes.
It’s a complex blend that’s quite sweet but well balanced with the high strength of 48,4%.
It seems that Panama is my favourite country when it comes to Spanish styled “Ron”. This is definitely my favourite brand together with Ron Zafra, also from Panama.
I have also understand that “Don Pancho” is involved in both brands.

Toffee, vanilla, chocolate and tobacco. What can I say more than this is a very good rum.

Bottle No. 8859 - 48,4%.

It’s a beautiful colour in the glass, but my first impression was the ethanol on the tongue. Once it had warmed up a little, the deep, rich raisin flavours came out and it was a completely different drink. Pretty good.

Quite traditional sweet woody, smoky and vanilly profile, very smooth. The packaging is very nice.

This rum have everything I look for in a rum. Nice noseexperience, a very delighted taste with a bit of sweetness, and a smooth, long ending. Yes, Malecon!!

A smooth and fragrant rum with a lot of vanilla and a bit spicy. Yummy!

A little smokey, spicy and a tad sweet. Complex and just the right amount of oak. Can easily handle the higher ABV without being harsh, it just boosts the flavours
