Excellent on the rocks (probably too hot for sipping neat), nicely complex and oaky. Mix it with coconut water and you have the world's greatest drink. Also great with cola and ginger beer. At between $12-$17 this can't be beat for value.

For me, it's not quite a rum to sip. Maybe more aging than 5 years would improve it. $ 18 at the supermarket.

As far as aged rums go this one's a baby but surprisingly smooth. The aroma in the bottle is quite nice. I can't put my finger on it but the aroma hints of sweetness but not a syrupy sweetness but a fruity sweetness. This is accentuated when smelled via a snifter.

The flavor is nice. Sweet but not cloyingly. Far from it. Seems the sweet is natural. Doesn't taste like there's added sugars. Has elements of butterscotch and vanilla and a little cinnamon. A little pepperiness, too. Not harsh at all but surprisingly smooth. I can see some enjoying this as a sipping rum while others use it in mixed drinks. Very versatile. A great rum for the price.

A lot like the El~Dorado 8 in terms of body and texture, but just barely misses the mark of the quality of spiciness/oaky flavors that the 8 has, making the 8 more to my liking. But still, the El~Dorado 5 makes a quality mixer, so I'd have a hearty dose of this with some pineapple juice and 7-up and ice thrown in! Cheers!

Herkomst: Guyana
Distilleerderij: DDL
Abv: 40%
Fles: 70cl, dop
Kleur: amber bruin
Karamel, eikenhout en kleine alcohol burn domineren.

Kleine broertje van de El Dorado 8 jaar oud. Alleen iets minder zacht. Maar toch, voor €18 was dit een prima rum.

Don't expect the angels to caress you while drinking El Dorado 5. But at it's price and age - who would do that? What you get is value for money, which will suit your Cuba Libres and most cocktails just fine.

It is okay to drink straight up but might be kind of hard compared to older El Dorados. From what I've seen the price is very similar to the 8-year El Dorado and I'd advise to get that one instead for drinking it straight up.

Som titel siger, så må El Dorado jo være et paradis og så vidt jeg ved er ingen gået gal i byen med netop denne rom. At komme hen på hylden og se vigtig ud :)

El Dorado's opening price point. Smooth Amber and probably the best bang for your buck. One of the nicest economy rums. Very similar to the 8-year old version.
