Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.
The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

Exceptional flavor. Incredible mouth feel. To be enjoyed neat. Simply memorable.
This is a rum that has grown on me the more I have had of it. However, it is not something I would recommend to novice rum drinkers.
It has a very heavy and strong flavour. Diluting it with ice or water did little to reduce the punch it packed. If you can get through the punch there's a lot of flavour to appreciate here.
I suspect this could work well in cocktails, as it's flavour would run little risk of being lost, however, I am yet to experiment with this myself and will update when I know.
If you're wanting an Appleton's that is easier and smoother to sip I would recommend the 15.
I don't completely understand this rum.
I perceived the flavor as smokey, but also questioned that assessment. Perhaps this is why "Appleton" figures in so many tiki recipes - it brings a complexity to its surroundings.
Notes from 8/8/21 Laka Lono, snifter with a side of cola.
In comparison to other 12 yr old rums I just didn’t really rate it, the Jamaican funk associated with this brand just didn’t grab my attention. Stick to Doorlys or El Dorado.
not ideal for sipping but makes a good mixer with most rum based cocktails
A bit more flavor than the VX but still to be mixed, for me, so assess if it’s worth the money before you buy.
A solid and easily accessible rum. Lots of flavor and funk but also very smooth.
Nice and smooth, good taste and smell. 7/10 average drink

The rum offers a lot of smoky spiced oak flavour.
"A nice note of cocoa and a little hint of vanilla. The rum is smooth yet spicy offering a nice kick. The finish is long and complex leaving a lot of flavour behind to savour."
