Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Prior to purchasing the 12-year old El Dorado I have bought the 15-year old. Having read many reviews with some people saying they prefer the 12 to the 15 I thought the two rums were at least en par.

The ED 12 tastes sweeter compared to the ED15, even though the ED 15 is supposed to have quite a bit more added sugar. The ED 12 is a pleasant rum on its own and given that it's reasonably priced, I can recommend trying it. You won't like it if you're not into sweet rums thoug

Compared to the ED 15, it's hands down just not as nice. The 15 is much more complex and has a lot more body to it.

Edit: It's best on the rocks.

this is truly delicious. I have yet to try the 8, 15, or 21 but I am now looking forward to it. A deep molasses flavor is the first thing that jumps out, but the spices come out shortly after. I will enjoy the rest of the bottle.

This rum is a sweet aged rum. There is a lack of complexity. The plus is that you can sip half a bottle before you realize it.

Rich color with nice legs
Smell of vanilla brown sugar with a pleasant heat.
I'm the mouth the vanilla comes through with chocolate and appercots. There is the heat again but again it is welcomed.
Finish is smooth with the vanilla lingering.

Un goût de fruit grille, excellent rhum très balancé !

To this point in my rum tasting enjoyment, this is my favorite. Offering aromas of fruity vanilla saturated in oak with a full robust body, yet smooth with spicy notes and flavours of chocolate cherry, followed by an after taste of lingering oak. Rich, full, balanced. For the price of $30-36 a bottle (Canada), I have no problem getting frequently.

Like Eric already told in his review, i had totally the same opinion.
This was one of the first aged rums I tried, but after a few nights of giving it a try, it really grew on me. By the end of the bottle I came to love this rum.

Another one of my favorite rums! Full of delicious and subtle sweet tastes (more subtle than the Diplomatico Reserva for example) and very friendly to the throat. I need to keep myself from reaching to this one every night!

I would love to taste the same rum with less added sugar.
Was my favorite rum for years but now I just cant stand the sweetness anymore. My new favorite sipping rum in the same price range is the Appleton Estate Extra 12YO.

For this price you can't get a better rum although the step up to the 15 is well worth the extra few quid. Rich molasses and smoothness of a typical el dorado. This has minimal burn, flavor isn't overly complex but holds its own against more expensive rums. This was the first bottle of "proper" sipping rum I tried so might be a touch of nostalgia in this review

By far one of the best rums out therefor the money. Lots of flavours and enjoyable mixed with anything! Has a lot of the flavours of the more aged El Dorado rums at a much better price.
