Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Great flavor, inexpensive compared to similar tasting rums.
Nice smell of coke when poured in the glass. With the sweetness the alcohol is not the first taste. Various notes one the sweetness has disappeared from the tongue.
Nice but I was expecting more from a 12 year old rum.
At the beginning smooth and sweet with a strong nice finish. Very good choice
I just got a bottle of this El Dorado 12 year rum in from a friend I did consulting for, and this is a great bottle. Distinct caramel notes, certainly fruity hints in this rum. Smooth finish, no more to be said. One of my favorites. I have not tried the 15 year to compare, however the 15 year would have to be absolutely outstanding to outshine the 12.
I got this rum as a gift from my mother. It was my first rum and as such my first love in the world of rum. It is sweet, has a lot of smoke and wood flavours and is an easy rum to enjoy, even for beginners.
This rum has a nice deep golden-red colour, with a pleasantly mild sweet alcohol smell. This is a well balanced sweet tasting rum, with enough of a smokey finish to make it an enjoyable sipper.
The bottle is to small ;) Great for just sipping. Sweet with a gentle sharpness. Love it.
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...
"El Dorado 12-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
It’s sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore.
"It’s very sweet and quite light. It’s very easy drinking. As a sipping rum it as easy to drink."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Sweetened but still good

Okay, there is a lot of sugar added here as others have remarked. I still like this rum as it is clearly aged nearly as long as the age statement indicates. You can't fake the layers of flavor and subtle complexities that are apparent. The only question I have is, why sweeten it up and make it only appealing to rum drinkers? Just give it to the world sweet and show them why you're one of the best El Dorado.
