This rum is very excellent in the glass and the nose is very smooth. First sip will hit your mouth with baking spice and orange peel with a hint of other fruits. The spice calms down a bit and leaves a lovely caramel flavor coating on the tongue. Burn is very minimal and is a very smooth rum. The price makes this one hard to not keep in stock! I've never tried it with ice or mixed, but I imagine both would work well!
It's all subjective, but perfect level of sweetness for my palate - not at all too sweet. Great balance of mild spices, hints of fruit, and the right amount of wood before becoming overbearing. Great sipping rum, goes down easily. Very good for the price, certainly better than many priced beyond this one. A good rum for those that (think they) hate rum thanks to the swill they might have had in poorly made cocktails or on-the-cheap college shooters, or for perhaps whisky folks looking to get into something a bit different without being too radical.
Upon the recommendation of my friend Mark, as a top notch sipping rum and for use in my tiki cocktails that call for a demerara, I bought this today at total wine. I first tried it neat, lovely caramel aroma, and taste, smooth as silk, no burn and sweet aftertaste. This is my first real quality sipping rum in my bar, I mostly make tiki drinks using Jeff “beachbum” Berry’s app, Total Tiki, but my friend Mark suggested El Dorado as his favorite sipping rum and I am really hooked on how good a top quality rum can be when enjoyed neat. i also made a Shrunken Skull with it and rhum barbancourt, lime juice and monin grenadine and it was fantastic. It’s lingering delicious flavor has me wanting more! My only other quality sipping reference is from last night when I tried Diplimatico reserva, at the Mai Kai, it was sweeter but they are both amazing, I’d say I prefer the El Dorado as it seems smoother and less sweet.
Perfect rum! My favorite rum now. Absolutely balanced. Not sweet but sweetness is barely caught. The taste of the barrel is hardly noticeable in the smell, too. Fabulous. Must drink to all -)))
I have not found an El Dorado I don't like. Consistent across the years.
Really like how this one goes down. It was recommended to me by the bartender at Storm Rum Bar in Asheville, NC. I think it is very smooth with just enough sweetness to mellow it. Very full flavor at the same time. (If only I could have gotten the picture straight!.)

Absolutely fantastic! 10 out of 10
El Dorado 12-year is probably one of the best sipping rums I know. Perfectly balanced with a slight kick and delicious notes. Would recommend this one to anyone.
