Bumbu Original

Heavily adultered rum that tastes as fake as it is. The flavor notes include sugar, more sugar, and a little cinnamon. Boring and inoffensive at best, gross and disingenuous at worst.

I bought this on the recommendations of several people I know in real life. The bottle has great presentation and looks appealing.

I was excited to try a new rum and I was seriously disappointed with this one. In fact, I wouldn’t call it rum at all. It has a very chemical taste. It’s sweet but with no definable flavors and the aftertaste is horrible. So bad in fact, I needed to wash the taste out with some good rum.

If this was the only rum available I’d pick any other alcoholic beverage first. Moral of the story? Find people here who’s ratings you trust and research before buying. I’ll give this back to the store if the guy wants it. I wouldn’t even give this to guests unless I didn’t like them :)

And that's about it. Hard to believe this claims to be from the rum haven of Barbados.

The liquor store rep said this was his favorite rum and a went with his recommendation. I should have read the label. So many flavors are added to this so that it no longer tastes like rum. I'll use it in trashy tiki party drinks while I save the good stuff for myself.

Super sweet, sugary, more akin to soda, not what I want from a rum. I will dump it in a cocktail mix for a Halloween party to get rid of it.

At least the bottle looks cool... That's what earns it another star.

Now, I like bananas and I like rum, but together...well, maybe not. A bit much here is you ask me.

Sampled this rum and my first impression was the sweet smells of banana and vanilla which felt very un-rum like to me. Tasting this rum confirmed this was an overly sweet rum, probably from extracts rather than from a natural distillation process. While this may appeal to those who prefer sweet rums, I did not like it at all.

This rum is truly not good. I thought some of the other reviewers were just being pretentious and giving low ratings due to a bias against sweet rums. That is not the case. The flavor profile of this rum is just bad all around.

I bought a bottle thinking I was getting a sugary sweet rum. It is sweet, but there is also an overpowering taste (and smell) of artificial additives. I think it is supposed to be banana and/or vanilla, but it is some perversion of those flavors mixed with pure damn it.

I also agree with other reviewers that the bottle looks a bit childish, like an over-stylized prop from a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I might be more forgiving if this were a low-cost rum, but at $35 per bottle, it is definitely overpriced. Maybe I can get rid of this by mixing it into Mai Tais?
