Reasonable presentation, with the "X" marks the spot bottle, in keeping with the Pirate heritage.
Looks good in the glass, having a nice amber hue and good legs when swirled in the glass.
However the nose is not what one expects from rum. Very sweet, with an artificial flavoring aroma which hits you immediately after pouring. I can't get past associating the aroma with the artificial flavorings that my mother used in baking. Some combination of banana and other extracts.
It is more thin in the mouth than expected, given the good legs mentioned above. Also, the flavors do not develop in the mouth much beyond the original banana, etc. nosing.
It is reasonably smooth, however the follow up is more of a mild burn than any satisfying flavor.
Some might like Bumbu as a liquer or dessert type rum and therefore disagree with my overall rating, however as a traditional sipping type rum it just does not cut it.
Rhum with too much added aroma. Vert spécial. Not for me
Purchased this craft rum online at Amazon for around £30 for it to arrive calling itself Bumbu rum to find it comes in at 35% ABV. To be classed as a rum it needs to be above 37.5%. This spirit drink as it informs you on the back is made from a blend of rums from Barbados aged for up to 15 years in rather sceptical how much of this bottle is a 15 year old as the blend feels rather young. The aroma is heavy caramel coffee/cacao and it tastes like that too it's been heavily sweetened and you can feel that on the lips. It's a nice spiced rum drink but not a rum and I personally don't see what justifies the price!
With the actual fuel prices, this helped me coming through winter and from A to B :)
OK...I'm not an experienced rum drinker but I know what I like. I am a mid-grade taster who appreciates products such as Zapacapa 23 and similar but no real sophistication (but I'm learning). I agree with most of the folks who grade Bumbu a 2 or 3 and consider it a "liqueur". Tell me if this is a sin but I took Bumbu and blended it out with Diplomatico about 1:4 and it tasted fantastic.
Probably a rum faux paux but I don't care...I'm not doing Bumbu straight up as I'd likely enter a diabetic coma!
Nice bottle. Smooth vanilla, super strong fruity (BANANAS) notes with sugar and oak. Bit of a marshmallow feeling on the tongue and super, super sweet. More like a dessert drink. I was given another bottle and I regifted it!
I wanted to try one of the more expensive brands at our local store but got disappointed with a strong banana and vanilla extract, might be good to mix in some cocktails but I would not recommend this as a premium rum ! Shame that the bottle is marked with the words “rum with natural flavors” as this doesn't taste natural at all...
The nose smells very sweet. Llashings of caramel and toffee.
"It barely even tastes like alcohol in any way shape or form. No mid palate and definitely no finish not even the slightest hint of alcohol burn. Maybe a little bit of woodiness as it goes down."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I considered Bumbu XO a decent choice so I decided to fill a hole and finally try Bumbu Original in "Parter" bar, Toruń, Poland.
The bottle is original but on the edge of daub. In the glass the rum has light golden brown colour.
The aroma is strong, dominated by banana (gross michel, a dead species of banana, not the bananas we eat today. I suggest you to Google it up, it's a very interesting story of banana business). You can also sense anise and some cloves.
Bananas are also present in the mouth, accompanied by vanilla. Combined with sweetness of this rum, these tastes remind me a piece of bakery. The finish is short, spicy and very sweet. After drinking a glass your breath smells like a banana.
I used a word "banana" in this review many times and it brought me to the conclusion that there is nothing else particularly interesting in this rum. It is drinkable but i think i will not repeat this experience.
