I really like the Banks rums I've tried. I think their 5-Island is the best white rum I've had to date, and their Banks 7-Golden Age is even better and is the best gold rum I've had to date. So I really wanted to try their aged rum, as I thought that had a great chance of being rated a 10 for me, especially given the high price of over $300.

I was going to save this for my 250th rum review, but I had a sneak taste and realized it wasn't going to be one of my favorites.

This has a fantastic smell, with brown sugar, old leather, spice, and oak. But while the nose is great, the taste also has a strong flavor of bourbon and whisky; too much for my liking as it overtakes the rum goodness. It still retains its sweetness, which is great, but the bourbon/whisky dominates what I believe to be a great rum and makes it not as good as it could be for me.

With that said, if you like rums aged in bourbon, you should give this a try; I believe it's a classic for the style. It's just not my style.
