Dos Maderas PX 5 + 5 rum is made from a combination of rums from Barbados and Guyana. It is unique becuase of its triple ageding process where for 5 initial years the rum is aged in the Carribean in oak casks. Next PX 5 + 5 is aged in Spain for 5 years in sherry casks, and lastly for 2 more years in even older sherry casks.
The Dos Maderas family of rums are produced by Bodegas Williams & Humbert, which is a well known Spanish winery founded by Sir Alexander Williams in the late 1800s. The region of Spain where the winery is located has a climate perfectly suited for wine and is known as Europe's wine cellar.

Chuť: Sladké - rozinky v čokoládě a opět vévodící sherry.
Dozvuk: Skořice a odeznívající sherry rozinkovost. Příjemný, středně dlouhý.
Sladkost: 2/3
Celá lahev
Opět přechutnávka jednoho z mých začátečnických rumů. Je to stále dobře pitelný sherry výluh, kde je sladkost na mojí stupnici únosnosti ještě v limitu.
A little on the sweeter side however tasteful. It is stable taste. After like 3 bottles I tried it seems it keeps the same quality.
You can taste the sherry from the barrel where it aged.
I normally don’t like dosed rums but this one is pretty subtle in that department. Tasting brings some apricots and walnuts that quickly become swallowed up by tobacco, toffee, raisin, figs, molasses and caramel but it all works extremely well together. There is dosage (added sugar) and it does longer on the pallate a while after drinking but it isn’t anything overbearing or overly sweet. All in all this is a solid rum, especially for after dinner sipping.
There can be no doubting the quality and uniqueness here - raw material from Barbados and Guyana aged five years in oak, then transferred to Spain for 5 more years in Sherry barrels (two types!). The result has incredible flavor intensity, wonderful aroma and a gorgeous color. But from the first sniff, it's hard to know if you're tasting a rum...or a sherry...or something else. To my taste, this spirit steps over some imaginary line. It's not really a "rum experience". If you're looking for new and unique, try this. If you are a rum drinker looking for a pure, quality rum experience, look elsewhere.
Enjoyed this rum on its own - Very smooth and enjoyable overall, despite rather monotone flavour profile.
Picking up date on the backend, it does burn the nose some.
Rich, plump raisins dominate the palate.
"Quite drying on the palate so the mid palate. A slight oakiness and a little touch of the oak barrel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Tasted at Laka Lono July 17, 2022
This "triple aged" rum is more than three times better than the "double aged" version, try to make that math work out!!
The progress made with the aging is indeed observable.
With aging, this rum picks up sweetness, vanilla and caramel flavors. It no longer tastes like yarn. Aging makes a significant difference, for the better.
Update: tasted at Laka Lono Kill Devil rum club, August 30 2023.
Appearance: amber with garnet highlights
Aroma: vanilla and caramel, this smells like a diabetic should stay away 😂
Flavor: I'm adding a bit of white pepper to what I taste, but there's also orange peel, vanilla and caramel.
This is a tasty rum!
