Dos Maderas PX 5 + 5 rum is made from a combination of rums from Barbados and Guyana. It is unique becuase of its triple ageding process where for 5 initial years the rum is aged in the Carribean in oak casks. Next PX 5 + 5 is aged in Spain for 5 years in sherry casks, and lastly for 2 more years in even older sherry casks.
The Dos Maderas family of rums are produced by Bodegas Williams & Humbert, which is a well known Spanish winery founded by Sir Alexander Williams in the late 1800s. The region of Spain where the winery is located has a climate perfectly suited for wine and is known as Europe's wine cellar.

Nice Rum, Not very Sweet. You can Taste the years in The Sherry cask
À venir prochainement ............................
Very dark burgundy color.
The initial taste (after aeration) is uber smooth and the sherry flavor hits like a truck.
This is quite an extraordinary experience. Possibly the most bang for y'r buck rum I know.
Don't hesitate to buy this!
I've tried many rums, however, when I opened this one, I knew it was something special. The aroma was so intense, yet inviting. I sat with a glass I had poured and sniffed it every 5 or so minutes for the better half of an hour before trying it. The taste is excellent and you can really note the flavors pulled from the sherry casks. This rum opens up and shows the caramel and toffee treasures that it initially hides from the nose. Excellent on ice, would highly recommend.
First thing which draws attention is nthe color. It is so dark for a middle aged rum ! Then first impression once in mouth is it looks like a liquor. This Dos Maderas is thinck and really sweet. The kind of rum you drink as dessert after a good meal with friends. Really enjoyed it and it is added to my wishlist !
Enjoyed this rum. Hint of caramel and molasses with a smokey finish. Nice alternative to the Plantation 20th because of the darkness and finish.
Rich, plump raisins dominate the palate.
"Quite drying on the palate so the mid palate. A slight oakiness and a little touch of the oak barrel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A good rum, but too much sherry for me

Nicely balanced, smooth, much flavour, but a bit too much sherry flavour for me. It's far better than the Dos maderas 5+3 but it's not really my style. I prefer dryier rums, more cuban or venezuelan rums. It surely is an excelent rum, I can apreciate that, smooth and complexity, probably many would score it even one point higher, but the sherry flavour is too intense for me. If you love rum and sherry, this is your rum
