Doorly's XO 6-Year

Barbados | Aged | 43.0% ABV

Produced in Barbados by master distiller Richard Seale, the rums in Doorly XO have been aged a minimum of 6 years before finishing in Olorosco sherry casks. The second maturation in sherry casks is rare and gives Doorly XO its unique flavour.

I liked this rum, but it does taste lighter and not as full as the 12 year old which i like a lot better and is not that much more expensive.

Thought this would be better. Has a harshness that I didn't expect about one-third of the way through and carrying into the aftertaste and beyond. Starts out with a nice hint of vanilla but immediately becomes a mishmash of unidentifiable esters. It's like a pleasant sunny day heading down to the beach but before you travel even three blocks you wind up in a car crash of twisted metal and broken glass.

Leaves kind of a bad taste in the mouth. Given the hype I wish this were better.

Doorly's is one of my favorites labels.
XO is excellent rum, no sugar and spices, with lots of flavours and long final.

If you want a mega sugar-dosed, diabeetus-inducing concoction like Bumbu or Diplomatico Réserva Exclusiva, this isn’t the rum you’re looking for. I’m not trying to bash on Bumbu or Diplomatico; if that’s your jam then have at it. Doorly’s/RL Seale/Foursquare/Real McCoy are true no-additive rums. There are toffee, banana, and sherry oak notes present. There’s also a bit of tobacco and black pepper.

So, this was nothing like I'd read. Not good for sipping, at all.

After I cracked it open, let my pour breath, I took my first few sips, and was greatly disappointed.

It was flat, with no real flavor. Not nearly as tasty as the others described.

For a sipping rum, to match the price, I'd rather go with El Dorado 12y or 15y, and to take it a step up, I'd go with Diplomatico reserve.

But not this rum, not for sipping. Its just ok for mixing.

Oak and sherry in the nose with a hint of toffee On the tongue it greets with caramel, transitions to sherryand ends with a smooth oak. Overall a great rum!

I don't think this can be beat by any other rum at the $20 price point. Nice to sip by itself, even better in some mixed drinks like an old fashioned. Near perfect for use in a good rum cake, which my wife has done.

It was my first meet with rum without added sugar. I dont like at first but now it is that what I like. Good rum and low price.

I keep Doorly's XO well supplied for game nights and entertaining. It's great for sipping or mixing.
A splash of coconut water and just a drop of vanilla extract compliment this one nicely!
