Good but not great, pure 7/10 for this bottle, little bit higher price but as a gift good choice.
I decided to try the Dictador 12 around the same time I first tried the Diplomatico Reserva. I wish I'd tried them in a different order, as I might have liked this rum better if I'd tried it first. However, it definitely suffers by comparison. The Dictador is not as smooth or as sweet. The nose is much darker - coffee and bark. I like coffee, but I didn't enjoy this rum as much as I'd hoped. It has almost a rubber, somewhat bitter or burnt undertone that I don't like. I haven't bought this one again. I am still interested to try the 20 year to see if it smooths out and losing some of that bitterness with additional aging.
Maybe my problem was trying the 20yr old first. That was definitely a premium rum. So, I figured let's see how the 12yr old stands up. Actually I think it's a good bang for the buck at $29 vs $59 for the 20yr old. I found that this one needs to breath a bit then all those flavors come out where as the 20yr old needs no pampering. It's definitely worth the money and very pleasing especially if you haven't tried the 20yr old. My bad going on top first! By the way, I found the same situation with ElDorado 15 vs 12.
Rum of predominant walnut taste, but also coffee, oak … asks for a cigar …
I suspect that this rum should be in the spiced rum category… or rum liqueur. It is fairly sweet but still has a bit of harshness. It seems to have more caramel tastes than one would expect… I wonder how it was made…
Bez debaty. A chuť to len potvrdzuje.

It’s a very intense, pungent smelling rum.
"The taste of the Dictador initially is very much of coffee. It still has a fruity taste but it has a lot more going on that just being sweet. ."

Small review of Dictador 12:
1) Origin: Columbia, 12-year-old solera, but I have no illusions about the number of the oldest items. European distribution should be controlled from Katowice (Poland).
2) Bottle: nice shape, but it is completely opaque, so you can't see how much you have left in the bottle. The plug has a real cork.
3) Aroma: Walnuts are absolutely dominant. Another strong ingredient is sweet coffee and also a little vanilla. Once opened, there is no smelling alcohol.
4) Taste: Again, ripe walnuts + Kofila (Czech coffee chocolate bar) and also vanilla predominate. It is a medium-sweet rum, approximately at the level of Zacapa 23. It is less sweet than Diplomatico RE and a little less than, for example, Dos Maderas 5 + 5. It is not puckery or bitter, but quite smooth.
Note: Before drinking, I rinsed the glass with water and let the rum "exhale" for about 15 minutes. I do it every time and it worked for me. The drops on the walls of the glass partially "absorb" the harschness of the alcohol, which does not disturb the taste so much.
5) Aftertaste: Relatively short and fades soon. It is pity.
I recommend it to beginners who do not like too sweet or too dry rums.
