This rum is a revelation. Dark notes of molasses and caramel. Incredible. This and OFTD have officially made me no longer scared of overproof rums. Maybe that fear came from trying moonshines in Tennessee, where higher proof meant less flavor and more ethanol. Not the case here. This is a flavor bomb.
This is potent, obviously at 151 proof! Use with caution... :-)
Amazingly given the proof, this is pleasant on the nose - not too much alcohol. Brown sugar, sweetness.
Palate - DRY, of course the first thing that hit you - followed by richness - oak, light smoke, nice level of sweetness, a bitter note. Burnt sugar, caramel, hints of spices like cinnamon.
A must have and a great OP for Tiki Cocktails. Can be a decent sipper with caution! Clears the sinuses.
A pretty tasty rum, but also packs quite a wallop (unsurprising as a 151 proof). Strong flavor, mixes well.
Having it with ice, it starts a bit strong, obviously, but then mellows out over time. It has rich flavors of brown sugar and butterscotch. Very good when watered down but exceptional when mixed.
That doesn't really make sense does it? Well, I bought it, want to add it, but haven't tasted it. So there you go.
I don't have this often, but when a cocktail calls for it, I am rarely disappointed.
This only recently became available in my area. Easily the smoothest 151 I've tried so far. It's might be just a touch hot neat to be considered a true sipper, but I find that a couple of drops of water makes this incredibly flavorful on it's own. Add a splash of lime and a bit of tonic and you have a rich grog that can't be beat. Such an exceptional value in my area at $25US for 750ml.
Hard find this 151. When Bacardi quit making 151, I searched for others for Spanish Coffee. Cruzan quit making 151. This is great stuff excellent nose and flavor. You can tell there is Demerara in there.
Rich notes such as toffee, brown sugar, molasses, raisins.
"Lovely treacly toffee, rich toffee apple and intense candy floss flavours."

From what I understand Hamilton is the gold standard for 151 rums, but since it's hard to get my hands on I've been using this in any recipe that calls for it and I've found it terrific every time.
