Angostura 1919 8-Year rum

Angostura 1919 8-Year

had this rum recently

Trinidad and Tobago | Aged | 40% ABV

Angostura 1919 rum is produced in Trinidad by blending a combination of light and heavy molasses distilled rums. These rums spend at least 8 years aging in American oak bourbon barrels.

The name Angostura "1919" refers to the event in 1932 when Angostura's distillery was destroyed by fire. Miraculously, a handful of barrels filled with rum from 1919 survived and were purchased by J.B. Fernandes - the master blender of Fernandes Distillers.

I liked this and I didn't. It's a bit too much sweet here. But it's great for a rum and coke.

I just got a tasting box, 6 rums under 30 euros.
Angostura 1919 was the lightest one, light smell of spiritus, not much in the mouth.
And not long lasting, but an easy sipping rum.

Nice vanilla sweet nose. Sweet start into sharp vanilla weak body. Abvish and oaky a bit. Longer semi sweet vanilla end

Better than the 7 year old angostura, hints of caramel mostly, but also this quite uncomforting taste of gasoil, not my cup of tea, better than the 7 year old though

Flavor and texture is thin. Not much going on in the nose. Flavor is smoke with hints of honey/vanilla/chocolate.

Just an average rum to hand out on get togethers with the drinking buddies

The Angostura 1919  is a nice blender that works very fine in different cocktail and drinks. I prefer this rum with Coca Cola and lots of ice.

I tried to drink it neat but don´t think it´s good enough. Sweet with vanilla, fruit and some oak but too much sticky alcohol and spice. This rum is a bit too harsh to drink neat, in my opinion.

But when I mix it - I love it :)

The taste is typical sweet liquer-ish rum, with one sad exception: you also have a taste of young wood. Looks like the barrels are new with wood cut against the grain to spill juice, or the rum is under-aged.
