Extremely smooth with a finish of lemon grass! Great find at Kin in Gainesville, FL.
A balanced spirit with a smooth flavour. Worthy of another!
Wonderful blend of aged agricoles from 1952, 1970 and 1976 and some younger agricoles. It's soft, grassy, spicy, dry and herbal, with notes of nuts, buttercream, dried banana peel, soft fruits. Long finish and lovely complex flavours.
Tasted neat in a glencairn
Nose: sultanas, dried figs, pear, peach
Palate: bright fruit leading with peaches and mangoes, caramel, cinnamon, some leather and wood trickling in
Finish: medium, with woody notes
Really a great sipper accentuating the distinct aged agricole vibe
And when I mean "best" I didn't mean in the agricoles only. Every word I can write adds no more. To sip the Clement XO is a joy and I think that people who likes sipping rum must give it a chanche.
Someone from Canada wrote in this site, four months ago, the perfect review for this gem.
CLÉMENT RHUM VIEUX AGRICOLE XO
ORIGIN: Martinique
AGEING: Minimum of 6 years in oak casks
NOTES: Complex basic rum. Standard whisky drinkers might enjoy this one more. For me a bit too pricy for wat you get.
SCORE: 7,5
I remember this one going for more than $100 US, so when I saw it on the shelf for only $60 US, it was a no brainer to buy. When I got it home and took it out of it's gift box, the fancy bottle pictured on this site was replaced by their standard wide cylindrical shape with a much smaller neck on top. The age statement on the back also states 6 years of minimum aging. I will gladly take the price cut and leave the fancy bottle behind!
Ever since trying the Clement 10 Year that qualifies as the most bourbon tasting rum of all, I have stayed away from this brand. I did like the Clement 6 Year, and this one somewhat reminds me of that one. One can still tell that this is a rhum agricole without too damn much wood aging. Those that hate unaged agricoles would be better off with this one, because it diminishes a lot of the grassy notes.
Update: It has come to my attention that this is a totally different rum than the one that came in the teardrop bottle pictured here. That one is no longer available except at auction. I did mention in my review that this version reminded me of their 6 year old. Hmmm! is this new XO really the 6 year old in a new bottle? We will never know.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Wouldn’t know it’s an agricole based on the nose, has a bit of heat/warmth as well, sudden mellow sweetness that turns into light grassiness funk on finish. Would rate higher but the finish after awhile turns a little bitter.
