I love rums from Martinique. This has smoothness and delicacy... Rhum Agricoles are really something special, with the aged variants developed with precision and beauty. A sipper, or a high-class Ti Punch.

Smooth and well balanced Rhum Agricole.

There certainly are other even better Rhums out there but at it's price point Clement's VSOP is really hard to be beaten.

It makes excellent mai tias. I like making cocktails as authentically to the original as possible. Trader Vic"s Mai Tai used a Martinique rum and this was as close as I could get. The man was a genius. Makes an excellent Mai Tai.

Its not smooth but I think in this case that"s a good thing. Its" sharp and concise. Floral notes, perhaps most comparable to rose water and citrus, I lean towards orange peel, are the notes I get. After a sip, if I press my tongue to the roof of my mouth, I can easily imagine the roof of my mouth being an orange peal being pressed for its oils. The flavour that I can only ever describe as "greeness" that I get from rhum agricoles is positioned along the taste differently than I have come to expect. In most rhum agricoles that I have tried the greeness has been near the end. This still has more finish to come after the greeness which is a pleasant suprise. However, the rum is much too sharp for this to be noticed without looking for it. Overall, I don"t see this being a go to sipping rum of mine but I am happy to have it be a part of my collection.

Agricole!

Dabbling into another agricole and I can't lie, this stuff gets better and better the more I try it!
Quick review:

On the nose- Very earthy. Getting grass, orange zest and spice

First sip- Super smooth right off the bat with a big bang of flavor. Somewhat similar to the nose with the grass and orange zest but getting a bit of wood in there as well. Also picking up a bit of coffee and tobacco mixed in. So much flavor it's hard to really put my finger on it but this is an incredible dram. I mean I know the JM VSOP was super good but it's more than a trend at this point. This isn't crazy expensive and is somewhat easy to find. If you are into rum at all or even for the whisky lovers I highly suggest giving this a go as I promise you will not be disappointed. 8.5 out of 10! Enjoy!

I usually mix tiki drinks with Rhum Clement VSOP, it is a wonderful aged agricole with a peppery, whiskey profile, but I have been sipping it as well and find it quite enjoyable, itโ€™s not your usual sipper, not too sweet but smooth and almost like a nice Scotch. I also enjoy it with a bit of lime, muddled with sugar syrup and a bit of ice for a Petite Punch in the traditional style of Martinique. I really beg to differ with those lower ratings, this is a quality aged Rhum!

N- Orange, liquorice, berries, hudson candy. Old Fashioned with extra orange peel, angostura herbs bitter. Smokes, chocolate with oak headiness, buttery, forest pine and natural, turned earth with more chocolate developed. Not very agricole-y, more towards molasses. Feinty notes developed with rubber, resin and more oak. Well made with bold aromas. (88/22)

P- Molasses with citrus sharpness that give it a refreshing lift. Orange, sazerac, rye-ish and fragrant. (87/21)

F- Medium-long, medicinal, waxy, nutty nuance and clean. (87/21)

B/B- 86/20. Balanced and natural on flavour, but wee thin on body.

Weighted Rate- 84pt

Nice agricole rhum with woody, earthy cane flavor with dry notes. Definitely a sipper, just wish it wasn't so expensive. Complexity and smoothness on the palate affords this rum to be part of your rum collection.

It's different. Like hay or as some had said, grass. It's warm and there is definite heat in the throat. However, the aftertaste of honey and dried fruit makes this rhum sing.
