On opening bottle nose is hot bourbon, strong. After resting in glass for 10 minutes the nose becomes pleasantly oak and vanilla. Palate is smooth, but unmistakable bourbon. As I am not inclined to bourbon, I appreciate the craftsmanship, but not really what I am looking for. Finish is bourbony with some tropical hints that linger. This is probably best for those who appreciate bourbon.
Actually, until I read the reviews mentioning whisky, it hadn't occurred to me where the harshness was coming from. However, it definitely has a whisky like taste on top of the agricole.
After allowing the residuals to sit in your mouth for a bit, the sweetness of the sugarcane finally comes through. However, definitely not my usual style.
A recommander
Not the greatest fan of Agricole's but this was well made, with a tarry finish to it. Dry, good length. OK but FAR FAR too expensive for what it is.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is a good rum that will not really blow you away for sipping, but is very serviceable as a mixer. It has some faint grassy notes that are characteristic of an agricole and possesses no off flavors that would steer you away. I tend to keep it on hand; pairs well with a funky Jamaican rum for a mean Mai Tai.
