This is a blend of 5 year old rums and a good and affordable place to start exploring the rums of Compagnie des Indes. It has a well balanced body and a nice smell. The light color indicates no or very little coloring. Although only aged for 5 years it is absolutely drinkable straight up, but dont expect a rich and powerfull or very sweet rum. A decent and honest young rum as it only contains 15 grams of added sugar per liter. Recommendable

Love the natural color and subtle addition of sugar allows some really good flavors to break through. Not the best in the C des I catalog but a good and lovely everyday sipping rum.

There is reason in being critical towards the dogma that "older is better". "Ooh, I have this 18 year old rum, it surely must be better than this 12 year old rum." Wrong. Aging does things - often good things - but it doesn't neccesarily make a better rum. I was pleasantly suprised by the line up of 5 year old rums by CDI. The 'Latino' is light and bright. It has some character but certainly isn't 'heavy'. It's not overly sweet, with a nice dry finish. And because it hasn't spend a quarter of a century in a barrel, it's lively: you can have another one and another and another without getting saturated with oak. Try doing that with old rum. This is a sophisticated party drink or an unfuzzy summer evening sipper, it might become a permanent addition to my cabinet.

The Compagnie des Indes Latino is a molasse based rum that is blended of rums from Guatemala, Barbados and the Dominican Republic. The rum was stored in oak barrels for 5 years. The main part is from Guatemala. The rum is bottled with 40% alcohol without added sugar. The rum comes in the C.D.I. typical bottle.

The rum is restrained in the nose. Some fruit and barrel notes like vanilla are perceptible. It is not sharp but it is not complex either. On the palate, the rum is uncomplicated. Fruity sweet with a little spice, the rum lets itself drink well without thinking much about it. The finish is again spicy with some bourbon content.

For 30-35 Euro you get a solid rum from a bottler who stands for clean good rums. Could be used well for mixing too. You can't do much wrong here.

Good and sweet. Not outstanding for its price. Best drank around a campfire by the icefields parkway within a stones-throw of a herd of elk.
