Appleton Estate Reserve Blend is a rum produced by Appleton Estate, a Jamaican distillery founded in 1749. It is a blend of 20 aged rums, ranging from 4 to 20 years old, that are distilled in copper pots and aged in oak barrels. The rum is smooth and rich, with notes of vanilla, spices, and toasted oak. It has an ABV of 43%. The distillery is located in the Nassau Valley of Jamaica's Cockpit Country.

Sugar: 0 gpl. Got a bottle of this as a present and quickly opened it as I thought it was something special. Must have been the new label or I had consumed too much rum already. It's okay as a mixer. It seems that Appleton is taking whatever they have left over from various barrels and calling it a reserve blend. There are some trace elements of tastes found in the higher priced Appleton's but it's my opinion that Appleton is aiming for the Bacardi section of the market with the price of this rum. It's still better than Bacardi, but the bar has been lowered. It's a fair to decent mixing rum. Spend the extra and get the Appleton 12 year old.
I picked up a bottle of this recently thinking it was something new from Appleton Estate and I was partially right. It's a new label for the same rum as the Appleton Estate Reserve rum. They changed labeling and naming structure in the spring of 2015. Confusing.
The aroma in the bottle has some astringency to it but nothing much else. Upon tasting it I notice some vanilla and caramel but that gets knocked aside by some tongue-tingling spiciness. Doesn't have much of a burn but still not very smooth. I would not recommend this as a sipping rum but as a mixer. It's usable and for the price a decent mixing rum.
This is a mixer and also on the rocks drinkable. Not bad but nothing speciale too.I prefer it with cola. But with cola its something than always to drink havana or bacardi.
Appleton has recently changed the name of this rum to Appleton Estate Signature Blend, but it's still the same rum. It's not bad, but a little strong for my tastes. Rather than "strong", maybe I should say that it doesn't mix well with cola?? Not really sure how to describe it. It's an okay rum, but nowhere near my favourite. I think I'd try other brands before coming back to this one.
Decent run of the mill rum, better than most of your rum n coke rums but not a real Neat rum. On the rocks or in a nicer rum drink where you actually may want to taste the rum in the drink.
Honey, vanilla and hazelnut notes with woody finish.
try this - if you want to taste jamaica rum.
it isnt sweet, ok. it isnt sharp, ok. it is very smooth, maybe the smoothest appleton ive tried.
it has a nice fruitiness. the spice ntes arent very dense, unlike the other rums of appleton.
I love this. I'm drinking with mix, namely cola, and the bottom end on this is rich. Lots of round molasses and sugars on the bottom. Vanilla, caramel, titch of orange peel and spice. I started my rum journey on the Signature Blend, which is 4 years. I was enamored by that for the oakiness and the molasses. This is THAT with a sweeter, thicker mouthfeel and more oak in the finish. It is your friend. I cook with molasses a lot and am able to appreciate it's bitter finish and dark round profile. Molasses and smoky oak are why I drink this brand. The extra of both and the added sweetness make this my favorite so far. I plan on trying the 12 year. Most reviews indicate that rum is best at 12 years. And I plan on trying the El Dorado 12 year.. It has a lot of close fans.
Let's hear it for my first booze review.
Was hoping for a sipper, but definitely a little harsh for that, for the price wasnt excited.

Nice spicy oak notes dominate, with only hints of fruit and just a small undertone of funk.
"A fruity experience. It’s initially quite sweet – nice fruity notes banana, mango maybe a little grape, which fade into an almost tangy dry zesty spice. The finish is medium long."

This is definitely better as a souvenir than it is a center piece for a libation 4 out of 10
I laughed out loud (it's kinda late here. I hope the neighbors slept through it.) as I hovered my cursor over the "two-bottle" rating mark and it displayed "barely drinkable-gasoline like"..It's really not quite that bad so I chose a higher rating. This rum isn't bad at all, actually. But, it's rather unmemorable with no complexity (unless you compare it to something like Bacardi Silver, which to me tastes like isopropyl alcohol that was stored near a tin that once held cane syrup and a dash of acetone). THis one barely makes the grade. I don't think that Appleton Estates is a poor distillery. they make several very nicely complex rum options that have character and flavor galore. THis is just the one they pump out to fill liquor store shelves and keep the lights on (in my humble rambling opinion). add ice, lime juice, and some orange like me, if you want to have more than two. it definitely improves things.
