This is part of a 24 Rum Advent Calendar given to me. I've never had a white Agrigole before and found it surprisingly tasty. Nice balance of sweetness and alcohol. Odd to not have the nuiances given by Molasses.
Like it a good bit.

I saw this strange looking bottle near the bottom shelf of a favorite gourmet store. At first, I thought that it was misplaced. Then I read the label with the name being quite familiar from these Discussions. For only $35 US, I took it home along with my other great repeat purchases.

Before I opened it, I looked at the reviews for it on this site. At high tide, the salty sea enters the cane fields, which gives their cane it's unique flavor. It is located near the town of Saint Luce on the central part of the southern coast of Martinique. I even used Google Maps to get a closer look at such an odd location to grow sugar cane. Somehow, the salt does not kill this special breed of cane.

Now understanding more about the meaning of the name on the bottle, it was time to open it up. What would I compare it to? A Brazilian cachaca? A Haitian clairin? A Oaxacan mezcal? None of these? All of these? It is certainly an oddball. But did I like it? Not really. Is it repulsive? Not really. Does it go well with seafood as suggested in other reviews? Yes! Instead of having my usual beer with some boiled crawfish, I poured some of this on the rocks. Surprisingly, it worked quite well.

Even if I find another bottle, I will not buy it again, but was glad to have had this chance.

Quick comparison of Trois Rivieres Cuvee de l'Ocean (ТR) 42° from Martinique vs Barbancourt (BC) 43° from Haiti.

TR is more expensive per °, still cheap.

Both have very similar profile of aroma and 68% of taste - something like ripe apricot\banana\fig\pure sugar cane\citrus. The diff that in TR it's very pronounced and oily, in BC it's subtile and watery. Both aren't smooth, burns, but if sip just a yota then its ok.
The rest 32% in:
TR - salt, grass, flowers. BC - pepper, sugar, grass.
Both aftertastes are short and not complex.
Both are simple compared to Clairin's Casimir and Vaval.
Definitely prefer Barbancourt, Trois Rivieres is a bit 'too exotic'. Later I will test them 'on cats' in cocktails.

This rum is VERY DIFFERENT. It definitely has some ocean qualities. Nice salt on the pallet with pepper notes. Decent bite. But thin like ocean water too. It reminds me a lot of tequila. I give this a 7 because it is so unique. Very different especially for agricole. Not a sipper really. Nice shooter and would make a great mixer.

Got a sample of this rum as birthday gift from my children together with some other bottles.
I think it’s an quite smooth Agricole Blanc with the saltiness, from the sea where the cane grows, very present.
Besides the saltiness that’s present from nose to the medium long finish is it the grassiness, the cane and the citrus fruits that dominates.

Crystal clear in the glass.
Independent and dynamic on the nose. Spaghetti Bolognese with olives and a little finely grated Parmesan cheese. Broad-leaved seaweed and freshly cut grasses with fleur de sel are ready for consumption. Appetiser.....
Fresh and soft on the palate. Amazing, the whole umami groove continues on the tongue and makes the mouth water. Freshly squeezed tropical fruits and sugar cane are still added to the whole dish. Main course.....
Long and surprisingly sweet on the finish, elegant vanilla and light caramel notes. Dessert....
A very unique and special rhum that shows the terroir and lets you experience it as only few rums can. For discoverers, Agricole lovers and friends of white r(h)um.

Plantation Trois Rivières joined the sugar trade as early as 1660, and although they started making Rhum on a small scale in 1785 it wasn’t until French industrialist Amédée Aubéry bought the estate in 1905 that sugar production seized and efforts were refocused on pure sugar cane rhum. Vive la France!
Trois Rivières saw a big reorganisation and expansion of its range in 2014, and Master distiller Daniel Baudin launched a whole new lineup of blanc and aged agricole rhums, including the first seawater signature product, using only fresh juice from cane raised by the waterfront in the south of Martinique. During high tide the fields are almost completely flooded with seawater, which adds a special maritime element to this distillate. The cane is cut by hand, fermented between 24-36 hours using yeast cultures unique to the island, distilled in a double-column creole still at 65-75% alcohol before being rested for 3 months and subsequently proofed down before bottling. The bright, vegetal & fruity character of a blanc agricole wrestles with a salty minerality to create a truly unique flavor profile. Being a huge fan of Mezcal I can appreciate this rhum neat, but it might be a bit rough for some. Enjoy it in a surprising Daiquiri, an excellent Ti Punch or why not as a substitute for Tequila in a Paloma. Don’t hide the salty notes with sweet juices or sodas, but let them shine with a simple citrus twist!
🥃
Nose: Freshly cut grass, Apricot, Lemon Zest, Cultured Butter, Anise
8/10
Taste: Canned fruit salad, Salty, Sweet, Minerals, Cane juice
9/10
Finish: Rich and oily. Long finish that is both fresh and sweet, yet earthy and spicy.
8.5/10
Overall: This is unlike anything I have tried before. Closer in character to a young mezcal than that of an aged rum. Sweet, fresh and fruity. Salty, earthy and spicy. This rhum is all over the map and full of funky flavor. A beautiful pairing with seafood!
⭐️8.5⭐️

Trois Rivieres offers a good products for preparing planteurs and ti Punch. This white rhum is enriched by this note of Sea in its taste. It’s produced with cane cultivated close to the beach and this provides a peculiar final note of freshness. It’s excellent for cocktails, I would recommend a Mojito with it: it’s surprising.

Rhum blanc agricole de Martinique. Cannes venant de l'extrême sud de l'île. Titre 43°.

Nose of golden raisin, the usual agricole grassiness, and some salty sea air coming through. In the mouth you just get a big ol' hit of salted, dried apricot. Finishes with a little more salt, plus that agricole grass-funk. This is a really cool rum. Not the best out there by any stretch, but very much it's own breed! If you want to explore all the reaches of what rum can be, you've got to add this to your list!
