Kirk and Sweeney 23-Year

. . . It's so close in taste and quality to the 18 year. Don't pay a lot more for this than that but if you're only talking a couple bucks difference then sure. This is a great rum. I gave the 18 year a 9 by rounding it up from 8.5, this is probably a true 9.

Found a bottle of this recently. It is thee best drink I've ever had. Let it breath for 15-20 minutes. It is similar to the 12 year old, which I reviewed as my "new go to," but the flavors are more incredible, it's smoother, and it is a beautiful rich mahogany color. It is slightly but not overly sweet. There are hints of oak, vanilla, tobacco, banana, and other fruits. I prefer it with ONE ice cube, which I won't call on the rocks, but giving full disclosure. It is hard to find, but if you can find it buy it. If I could have 3 oz of this every night I would consider myself in heaven.

I drink neat most of the time, on occasion with a large rock so my view of rums is all about the rum. As I explore the many rums available I have found that even by paying way up for a special bottles I always find myself comparing those rums to the K&S 23 and asking why did I spend that money. And although the price is not entry level it is not over the top, in north Georgia it is going for about $50 US. A bargain.

I have recently received this as a gift and I was looking try as it was on my list anyway. I'm definitely not disappointed.

On nose I find dry fruits, mostly raspberries and blackberries, maybe honey. Especial if you let it wait in glass for 10-20mins. Color is beautiful copper one and oil viscosity on glass. What I like is also the taste. You can find vanilla, fruits and sherry, with tone of caramel and wood.

I do not know if there is sugar added, they say there is not. If so, it must be very little, up to 5gpl max. The taste is more dry and if information I found are correct, it is nice agricole.

They say it is 23y, not solera style or blending but in the end, it's maybe not important. For the price rage on 40Eur this is great bottle for your evenings. It also comes in very nice bottle design. Very strong 8 (8.4) on my scale.

PS: We did blind side by side comparism with Plantation XO and this one won for 3 of us. Those who like Plantation XO should try this one.

Au nez, caramel, miel et fruits séchés. En bouche, bel équilibre entre le fruit, la vanille et le bois avec une bonne persistance.

A good rum with the usual vanilla and oaky flavour.
But it smells almost like caramel..
Did not see that coming !

Smooth, not too sweet sipper with honey-like accent. The 23 is much better than the 18.

Really enjoyable taste. Smooth and a little sweet. This will be a repeat in the future.

Hells bells! This be the best of the three Kirk & Sweeney rums I've had! The 12-year was great, the 18-year was even better, but the 23-year beats the two of them! She smells sweet, almost distractingly so, but that comes with hints of vanilla, smoke, cola, and unless I am mistook, dried fruits. On the tongue, she be SMOOTH with lots of vanilla. Not too sweet - not as sweet as she smells - but not dry. Aye, she have a great mouthfeel, and there be zero burn goin' down the hatch. On the finish, there be a hint of grassiness, and at the very end, just a tiny hint of the dried fruits. This be an outstandin' sippin' rum not to be mixed with anythin'. She be a bit on the pricey side, but she be worth every penny. Let me perish and rot if I be lyin'! arrgh!
