Note i really dislike rum from DR but this is probably the best one (exception are Opthimus but these are blends so not apples to apples ). Has a nice toffee nose, velvety consistency with long caramel finish, not overly sweet would rate higher but has a bitter undertone
To be entirely honest, this one is similar to the 23. The main difference between the two is that the 23 is somewhat smoother, as age tends to do to any alcohol that lends itself to aging.
Otherwise, however, this one is almost as good. I mainly gave it a 7 simply because it isn't as smooth, and that smoothness is something I value. It has a very similar flavor profile to the 23, and, thus, similar drinkability. I absolutely recommend it.
Sherry, Molasses, Vanilla, Caramel make this different and easy to enjoy, great aroma, loses its body if you mix it; this is best straight, fantastic to sip but loses its persona mixed. Definitely worth a try.
Sweetness 7/10
Overall 7/10
Nice rum from The Dominican Republic. Not so sweet and with a little hint of alcohol.
Good rum, a bit more oaky and smoother than the 12 year. All in all though not worth the additional price. 12 year is a must try though.
Well-aged rum trace on the nose β brown sugar, vanilla, and some chocolate/coffee overtones. The body starts things off in that direction, then takes an interesting twist toward some curious red wine notes. The coffee trace builds as the finish grows, along with some leather notes and a bit of dense sweetness, almost Port-like as it mingles with that wine-like character. Austere and worthwhile.
Dry, nice burn with a very strong cocoa aftertaste. Taste could be a bit more intense.
Compared to the 23, the 18 comes off with a bright, fruity, butterscotch finish that I didn't enjoy. It's not necessarily sweeter, but it's more one-dimensional. Lacking the nuances of oak and tobacco that make the 23 so amazing. Certainly drinkable in it's own right, but if both bottles are on the shelf, it's a no brainer for me to grab the 23. In fact, I think I'd reach for a variety of other bottles over this one. Mount Gay XO, Ron Zacapa 23, etc.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is a good smooth rum that is rich in flavor. A little bit pricey but worth it. Iβll definitely buy a bottle again again.
