Depaz VSOP 7-Year

Very cognac-like and dry at first tasting. On second tasting, I could pick out the grass and fruity notes. If you like agricole, add 3 points.

45% abv. Lovely amber colour in the glass , very astringent on the nose so I left it to mellow for a good 15 mins but still very strong alcohol fumes. On sipping the white fruits and white pepper try to force their way to the front but are held back by the alcohol burn...
For a 7 yr rum I was expecting a lot smoother , it did get slightly mellower as I finished the glass but not enough for me to rate higher.

I think you can give this an 8 if it's to your particular taste. Very fresh and awakening. I prefer sweeter and woodier but it's a really good rum. Whisky enthusiasts will enjoy it.

The Depaz VSOP is produced using fresh cane juice and bottled at 45%. Nosing reveals notes of cane, vanilla and spice. Palate is quite forceful and juvenile, pretty spicy, dry and oaky and especially smoky. Also the long finish shows clearly the smoky notes. So you get something nice and & real in your glass. For an Agricole Rhum it has surprisingly little grassy notes.

A strong dry rum with hints of grass.
Almost like a mild cognac.

This clear, golden colored VSOP is aged in small oak casks for seven years. In nose you can recognize aromas of cut grass, prunes and vanilla. The palate brings notes of tobacco, liquorice and some sweetness. It’s an elegant and well-balanced rum. The only VSOP that can compete, of those I’ve tasted, is the 8yo “Reserve du Comte Arthur Dillon”.

Attaque franche et belle longueur en bouche pour ce rhum agricole, assez boisé sur des notes de canne et de vanille.

Située au pied de la Montagne Pelée, la distillerie s’appuie sur la spécificité de son terroir volcanique et de son savoir-faire maîtrisé pour produire avec une grande régularité des rhums de grande qualité.

En 2014, la distillerie présente son nouveau flacon (l’actuel) qui sublime le contenu, qui lui reste le même.

Alors que l’appellation VSOP garantit au consommateur un minimum de 4 ans de vieillissement, le Depaz VSOP Réserve Spéciale a bénéficié, quant à lui, d’un vieillissement de 7 ans passés dans des fûts de chêne (ancien fûts de cognac et de bourbon), lui permettant de développer une palette aromatique riche et complexe. C’est donc en toute logique que le Depaz VSOP Réserve Spéciale a remporté la médaille d’or du Concours Général Agricole de Paris deux fois, en 2009 et en 2012.

Notre avis : un très bon rhum, d'une grande finesse, bien présenté, à déguster par petite gorgée pour en capter toute la palette qu’il a à offrir. L’aération dans le verre peut être un bon allié si vous trouver l’attaque trop franche en bouche.

Nez : vif et racé, on y décèle des notes de le pruneau, de pâte d’amande et de vanille, rehaussé par un boisé doux qui complète chaleureusement l’ensemble.

Bouche : L'attaque en bouche est puissante, très fidèle au nez avec des notes de réglisse et de prune, une jolie rondeur en fin de bouche.

Finale : assez longue et un peu sèche, dominée par un fruité épicé.

Krásně ovocná vůně. Velmi jemný, sladký, hodně je cítit alkohol.
